I owe $24,000 in credit card debt. I owe one card 13,000 and one card the balance. I am current but struggling on making the min payments. I inquired to a couple of debt settlement companies and noew they all seem to be calling. What is the best company? I live in Texas. My two cards are with Chase and Bank of America. Has anyone delt with them?

Hi Michelle and welcome to the site!

Your best bet to find a good consolidation company is to investigate their record with the BBB (Better Business Bureau). Go to the BBB website and search on their company name to see if they have a favorable reputation there. Also, do a Google search on the company name to see if there are any complaints on the internet about them. It wouldn't hurt to go to consumer complaint sites like Ripoff Report to see if they have had complaints filed there as well. You can judge from the nature of the complaints yourself if they are true grievances against the company, or a rogue client making a false report. If there are a number of complaints about them, I would avoid them.

Both the credit companies are pretty tough to deal with. They don't want to budge. Have you put a payment plan with them? You might qualify in one of their financial hardship program. If this happens, they will offer you some extensions and drop down the interest rates.

I will consider a debt settlement company that has positive experiences of dealing with them.
