what is the Statue of Limitations for a Credit card company to collect on an old account? Date of last activity is 6/01. A collection agency picked up the account in '03 but I didn't send anything to them. Yesterday I received a letter from an attorney on the collection agency's behalf but the account is over 6 years old and the original creditor has already written it off. Should I reply?

Welcome,
You should send this attorney's office a debt validation letter which u can find in the do it urself part of this forum. Just change the wording up to match ur situation.
Also, if u spoke to the CA and admitted owing this debt, i think, that restarts SOL but i'm NOT positive. There is a list somewhere on this site with the SOL's for each state... let me see if i can find it for ya.... also, i do remember OH was a long time, if i'm remembering correctly.
Good Luck and i'll go look for that info for ya,
Ang

Here's what i found:

Quote:

Unless you live somewhere like Ohio (where the SOL is 15 years), the SOL has no doubt run

State Oral Agreements, Written Contracts, Promissory Notes, Open Accounts
Ohio 6 15 15 6

Ok so now i'm confused... looks like on open accounts, which would be credit cards it's 6 years!
I know there is a site to check this out and soon as i find it i will post it for ya!
Good Luck,
Ang
