Hi all... It would be great if you all could send some thoughts and prayers my way this week. I have some major financial hurdles to overcome, and it's not looking good.

Most of the members here know I was forced into Chapter 13 Bankruptcy last year to save my house. (I could be the poster child for that whole subprime mortgage mess - every bad thing you've heard about mortgage brokers & shady real estate deals happened in my situation.) Things are not getting much better at this point. I have worked to clean up my credit reports, disputing all the inaccurate information, so my score has come up quite a bit from last year. However, since this whole subprime mortgage mess started, the lenders have tightened their refinance criteria, so now even my increased score doesn't meet their requirements for refinancing out of a Chapter 13. I am hanging on by a thread, receiving approximately 1/3 of my normal paycheck after the Trustee payment comes out.

I've received a shutoff notice on my gas/electric bill due to the fact that last winter, I enrolled in their Winter Protection Program. It allows you to pay a smaller portion of the bill every month, but come spring, they expect you to pay the balance all at once. I have been unable to pay the amount they want every month (over $300), but have paid my regular bill and some extra to try and get the Winter Protection balance down. It's reached the point where I have to pay the balance or get turned off. I have contacted the utility company and they have put a hold on my account for 1 week while I try to get some help with this bill. The problem is that many agencies that are available to help with this only look at the gross income on your paystub - not the net. I don't know if I will be able to get help or not.

Things will be better soon, I know they will - I'm pretty much at rock bottom now...so they have to! But please just send a prayer my way that I will be able to get some help with this situation, and that I might somehow be able to refinance out of the Chapter 13. Things are getting pretty desperate here.

Thanks everyone!

I am so sorry to hear about your financial troubles, and you will be in my pryaers. Have you tried to see if churches in your area can help? Even if they could only help with one months payment, that would buy you some time. We have agencies here, like Community Care, where they will help a little. They were able to pay for my sons' gorlfriends' medicine. Check with United way, Salvation Army, etc., to see if you can get some help, at least temporarily- so you can catch your breath. Let me know what happens, hang in there!!..KAren

Thank you all for your prayers and good wishes. I was sick most of last week and used the last of my vacation days for the year in order to cover those days off, so I have to take 1/2 day without pay Friday in order to run around town trying to get help. My company does allow us to make up time we take off, though, if we don't have vacation to cover it, so I will be working my lunch breaks this week to make up that missed time, so at least I won't lose any money in my check next week.

I will let you know what happens - I have to apply to the state agency first for assistance, and get a denial from them (which I know I will - they'll take one look at my gross income and deny me, regardless of what my take-home pay is), and then take that denial to the other agencies and try to get some help.

I found it...Joshua posted it last week...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Not sure if this is the right spot for it on the forum or not, but I found a place for people who need assistance with basic living needs like rent, moving costs, medical emergencies, back utilities, etc. I am trying it out myself because after getting out of the payday loan trap and the high winter bill, we got behind. So I will update you on the progress at Modest Needs. As far as I understand it, it's not a loan, but a donation, but you do have to demonstrate a true need to back up your request with documentation. It's just another thing out there to consider before turning to a payday loan.

Maybe it would help to ask??

bflow - I am in Michigan.

Morningstarr - I did apply to that company...am waiting to hear from them...but in the meantime I have to do something to keep things running here at home...so I'm also seeking other help.

I really appreciate everyone's suggestions and prayers...I know things will get better, it just takes time.

Update folks....

The bill is taken care of, and from a VERY unexpected source.

It's not something I care to discuss in public, so please pm me if you have questions or want to discuss it with me. But suffice to say the bill is almost paid in full, leaving me only a small balance to take care of, and I will have a clean slate.

This is a HUGE relief for me...thank you all for your prayers and thoughts. :D
