I don't think debt collectors have any restricted time frame within which they have to validate or verify a debt. Are they reporting the item on your credit report? If you think their reporting is incorrect and they are not verifying it after sending the letter, dispute it with the credit bureau. They will investigate with the company and verify the details.

Please do a google search for Texas Finance code relating to debt collection. It should limit the collector to 30 days to validate and you can also validate at any time. The letter you would send them will have to contain the code you are quoting,so go ahead and read up on the relevant laws.
