Have you pulled your credit reports recently, to be sure there are no other debts lingering out there that you might want to include on a debt consolidation or settlement program? If not, it might be a good idea to do that before you talk to the debt counselor - that way, you'll have a clear picture of your situation. Go to annualcreditreport.com to obtain your free annual credit report - no fees - no program to sign up for - just a free report. This is also available whenever you've been denied credit. You can print the reports, review them line by line, and go back online and dispute anything that might be inaccurate.

There must be some plan according to what you can afford right now. Remember, it will take longer for you to complete the plan because of lower repayments. The plan will finish faster if you are able to make large payments. In such a case, you may save some portion of money in interests. You need to discuss your situation with a professional expert and frame a suitable plan.
