We Need Better Education In The Fields of Money!!
Date: Sat, 08/04/2007 - 14:18
But at the same time we as a people need to be calling our local and federal governments, and be demanding that we have more through schooling for children and young adults. In the fields of debt, credit, how money really works, how to protect themselves from fraud. Not to mention continued education required in college, concerning these issues like consumer rights. If we as a community stand up and start putting up a fight, and start talking to the politicians about implementing new classes that are required in order to graduate. The younger generation would be more prepared for whats ahead. I mean is that not why we have schools in the first place, to prepare our children for what lies ahead. Instead they get the absolute pure basics, and nothing more beyond that. It would also be more helpful if we pay teachers more than what they do get. It's time for us as a generation to stand up and tell our government to start updating our teaching standards. We also need to start holding workshops for the younger generation, so that they can begin there education on finance and the laws governing finance.
Sincerly,
Mike

I agree, I felt pushed through school. In high school economics I didn't learn anything about budgeting or more importantly the true cost of credit no to be ware of frauds. In College economics all I remember is supply and demand graphs!
And when they do throw in important information it is usually missed in the mix up of a bunch of junk, completely lost to the audience.
But now the true question, how can the government teach us how to spend money properly when they can't do it themselves??
That's true the government can't do it themselves. But let's not
That's true the government can't do it themselves. But let's not let them be the only group to write the standards on this. We need teacher's that are well informed in the field to teach these classes, and we also need them to be paid well for it. Because it's what the next generation learns now in school that will assist them in the future. It's time these kids learn all this now not later in life. Teaching the importance budgeting and so much more. Would be more productive in the future. It would lower our individual debt, our national debt and much more. Maybe it's time, to start teaching our kids ourselves about money while we fight the government on this issue. I mean we go through life hiding our finance's from our kids, we shelter them from the burden of it. But if we start now by opening the door on this we could help our children in the future. Open a bank account for pay them for what they around the house and school. No not bribe them. Let's stop looking at it that way. No teach them the importance of budgeting what it means to pay bills ontime and means to them when they are late. how to look for a good loan. How to make sure your not getting ripped off. How read agreements and contract's. Whats good in a contract and what is bad. I mean it's up to us to fix the problem of massive debt and prevent it from happening to our kids in return. Please lets all start teaching our kids these important values, and start demanding our schools get on the ball with important lesson's about the future and stop putting so much emphasise on things that keep them sheltered!!

I'm going to start calling some people I know and see what we would have to do. To start a low cost to free workshop parents and kids alike can goto. To learn about money, and maybe this site can get involved in it, and start a movement to keep our kids well informed.

Well I drive a truck and i'm currently going to school via distance education for a degree in finance management.
I'll be back on tonight to continue talking to others about doing a workshop for our kids to help them understand finance more.
Please keep this discussion alive and well because this is one of the most important subjects out there.
I will soon in the near future start a blog and a website and hopefully a non-profit organization to start this cause.
For now I say good-bye and good luck to everyone!
It's time to get this load down the road!!

Unfortunately what you are suggesting is going to be a major uphill battle. The problem is the federal government is in on the entire credit debacle. Heck one of President Bush????????s major supporters is MBNA. If you need further proof go check out our lovely new bankruptcy laws that over ???? of our congress supported and President Bush signed. Then check out the ???????No child left behind??????? bill that makes a complete mess out of our school systems that he pushed through congress. I do like some of the things Bush has done for our country but these two items really stink.

Yes, It's going to be a mjor uphill battle, but if we all stand together and start talking to our congress men and women we shall make a difference. Education is the most important thing for our children. We must fight for it, DEMAND it!
In regards to the non-profit organization. I have started looking into what is needed to be filed, legally.
I have talked to several professionals in the field's of money including my professor and he agree's and is willing to help me out. Anyone else willing to help via idea's and/or time i would really appreciate it.
I'm not taking any donation's in this effort untill i have filed all the legally required documents.
Anyone that has info on how to do this, please leave a msg. on this forum.

Mike
