I had sent a letter to American Collections (collector for my son's medical issues). I complained in the letter about the representative that refuse to give me dates of service and take my insurance information.
Obviously they got it, because I received a package of paper in the mail today of atleast 50 pages of copies of hospital bills for my son. There was a letter (a very generic one) with the bills that basically said here's your bills, we take checks and we charge 35.00 if it bounces.
Nothing else, no sorry, no let's work with you-- no nothing!
In review of the pages, it looks like some of these chrages are duplicated-- so I'm not going to be willy-nilly about it and just pay these bills. I'm going to research more.
Now that I have copies, I'm going to see about submitted it to the state insurance myself and maybe they'll handle it. The AC representative told me that there was no way the insurance was going to pay it since it was older than 9 months old when I spoke to her about a week ago. However, when I spoke to medical assistance-- they didn't seem to have a problem with the bills being old (when she refused to take the health insurance info).
So I dont know what the truth is. I guess it wouldn't hurt to submit it and see how it goes. I really do hope they pay because I really can't fork out another 3400.00 in medical expenses.

I have never heard of a statute of limitations for the insurance companies responsibility. You can first send the collection agency a letter of Validation via certified mail, which requires them by law to furnish you with a complete, legal breakdown of the alledged debt. Come to my site for a sample letter to send them.

The collector didn't know what she was talking about by saying "because they're over 9 months old". There probably are some duplicates. The medical field in milking insuance companies are the reasons for our high rates. A couple of years ago, I heard of a hospital billing insurance for a pregnancy test for an 85 year old woman. And that's just one example. It can be a very complicated matter. Really you would need an attorney to go through all your documents.

If the insurance does not pay, negotiate reductions with the health care provider. It can be done easier than you may think.

Cash paying customers always pay more than the insurance company. That is why a collector does not care about your situation. They just want you money.
