Well, check http://www.annualcreditreport.com and see what is on your credit report actually. You can check your credit report on this site for free once a year. Maybe there are accounts on there that aren't yours that you should check, or maybe like you mentioned you have a limited credit history. At least this way you can see what is on your report.
denied credit
Did you know everytime you apply for credit somewhere ( of course, your Credit Report is looked at),your Credit Score dropps? Alot of people don't know that. What ever you have, on your credit, even if it's just a few things, keep paying on them. You can request your Credit Report ( all 3 of them ) for free, at www.annualcreditreport.com ( you can do this once a year ) and see who has been looking at your credit. Then...'go from there'. Hope this advice helps in any way.

If all you have is a cell phone and a auto, you have a very thin credit file. Most cell phone companies don't even report unless you default. I will be moving this to credit repair section. The first step is as advised to pull your report from each of the bureaus.

If you did not purchase your car with credit, then it will not build your credit history--much like cajun stated that a cell phone contract will not help you. Me thinks you were fed a line...
Where did you apply for credit? If at a store, it is often much more difficult to be approved than it is for a use everywhere Visa/MC... If all else fails, look for a secured credit card to start.
Like everyone else said, if you haven't already pulled your CR, do it now to verify it's accuracy (empty as it may be).

Not having anything credit wise can be just as bad as being overboard on credit! My brother, years ago, paid for everything in cash, no bills, etc. One day he wanted to go buy a newer car, and guess what-he couldnt, because of nothing in his credit file! He had to have our mom sign for it!!
Since I have paid off credit cards, I don't know that not getting one is a bad thing, except you need to build some credit.
One of the ways we started building our credit was to get a small loan at our bank, have them deduct the payments(so they we always on time), and paid it off.
Whatever card you do get, if it isn't a secured card, pay it off at the end of the month, or you will find yourself in a big mess!! Good Luck-keep us posted..KAren
