Hey Gang!

A few of us were talking about marshmallows, and the next thing you know, we're planning a picnic!

So here's the lowdown:

Since we live ALL OVER THE PLACE, and there's no one state with a heavy concentration of members, we're thinking of having a bi-coastal picnic, with one on the west coast and one here in Michigan. (Ok, so it's not quite the east coast...but close!)

I'd like to get everyone's opinion on this - what do you think?

Labor Day weekend - picnic to be held Saturday or Sunday, 9/1 or 9/2/07. (Most popular date will win.)

One in California and one in Michigan. If enough members would like to attend one somewhere in the middle of the country to make it easier for them to attend, we could have three picnics! We can take pictures and post them, and Goudah suggested setting up a webcam, so we could really have a lot of fun with this.

Time is to be determined.

Location - the location of each picnic will be determined by the picnic host in that state. PM me for details. Location details will not be discussed in the public forums for safety's sake.

In order to make this easy for everyone, I suggest the following:

Each guest brings ONE regular size pack of hotdogs or hamburgers to be cooked on the grill (for everyone to eat), and one 2-liter bottle of pop or large bag of chips or a salad/dessert item. That way, no one person is having to supply everything - it's a community effort - just like our efforts to help others here at DebtCC! :-)

Obviously, if you want to bring more food than shown above, you're welcome to do so! :-)

What do you think? I'm eager to hear everyone's thoughts. I'm hoping by doing this about a month in advance, those who wish to attend will have enough time to plan a trip. I would encourage those of you who live close to each other to consider carpooling together!

I'm looking forward to this, and hope we can pull it off...maybe even make it an annual event! :D

Ok guys - a little update:

- We need someone to head up the picnic in California. I don't know how many members we have out there, but I know there's a few. Can someone please volunteer to set it up at a local park where you can have a picnic, kids can play, etc? PM me if you're interested in setting this up - it won't take much work, just finding a place to have it and keeping in touch with your local attendees! :-)

This doesn't have to be a huge event - it's our first one, so even if just a few of us get together, it will be a fun outing!

Ok,
Since we're huge over here in the great Golden State of CA--and we have members in the Northern and Southern part of our state, my suggestion is to have the picnic in Central CA. I am thinking either Bakersfield or Fresno, possibly????? Only drawback is potential HEAT!!!!!! This way, everyone would drive/fly an equal distance and these cities are also Amtrak accessible. What does everyone think--and do we have any members from those cities who know of locations? And let's do this by PM. Also, who would come?

Hey everyone - since we seem to be having some issues with the site for the past couple of days, please bear with us if we don't answer pm's right away. I think some people are sending pm's and they aren't getting through - so if I haven't responded to yours, I'm not being rude, I just haven't gotten it yet! :-)

Sounds like a party, Anthony!! :D If anyone from California is planning to come to the picnic, we need to firm up a date and a location ASAP. I personally vote for 9/2, but the majority will rule. So if we could start a dialogue so we could get an idea of who's coming, that would be great!

My thoughts too, KS! I'd like to see more responses on this, so we know whether it's even worth doing! I'm willing to do a picnic, even if it's just 2 or 3 members attending. I'm always up for a picnic!

I don't know if anyone tried to PM me during our recent site problems - if so, please try again! I need to hear from anyone wishing to attend the Michigan picnic so we have a rough headcount to work with.

I'm looking at our picnic also being on Sunday, 9/2, if that works for everyone coming to the Michigan event. If 9/1 works better, I need to hear from you! :-)

Hey everyone...

We are a little over a week away from the picnics we had planned. I have yet to hear from anyone via PM saying they'd like to come to the Michigan picnic.

If anyone is interested, please let me know ASAP - if I don't hear from anyone this week, I will assume no one is interested and will cancel the event. I had hoped it would work out, but I understand we didn't have much time to plan - maybe next year! :D

We'll try to start planning earlier next year - maybe in MARCH? LOL Just kidding, but I know what it takes to organize an out of town trip for most of us, so please keep in mind (starting right now) that we hope to have a picnic around Labor Day, 2008. Maybe with this much advance notice, we will be able to pull it off this time.
