Hi,

I'll keep my story short: mom passed away some years ago, I then couldn't function, quit my job, bounced around at menial jobs, couldn't concentrate, and during all this I was in "retail therapy." Thus my present predicament. ~$20K in debt. I am stone broke, and it's my fault, didn't (or couldn't) pay attention to the signals...

Sooo, I've finally got a full time job, and I got the news tonight that I was hired for a 2nd job! This should get me up to speed on my payments.

At this time I am glad I found you guys...I really need some, I guess, understanding as all of you have been in the same boat at different levels. How have you coped during the repayment process when $ is practically non-existent? I'm so embarassed at my situation that I've told no one, not even my family, at least not the details...

I believe that because I'm in this situation my energy level is quite low. But with these new jobs, I'm sure that my situation will improve; slowly, but improve it will. But I continue to have a heavy hear, and I'm sure not having any fun, or really want to. My first thought when I think of doing something is "how much will it cost?" even if it's ice cream...

Thanks for listening. If I can be of help to anyone out there, just drop me a line. I can be very supportive...and I'd be happy to provide support for anyone...

Best,
Mary :(

Hi Mary! This website has been a Godsend for me. I, too have found myself in a desperate financial situation. With many medical bills, my husband's loss of job, we are struggling. I have, however, found empowering tools to combat my situation. Keep moving forward! Don't give up!

Mary, you need to be good to yourself!! We all get into situations from time to time that drain our finances whether it be the loss of a job, a loved one or just doing something we shouldn't have done. We are, after all, just human. Forgive yourself...and move on...you are doing all you can to correct the situation and turn your life around...that's a fantastic move!!! I don't know what kind of debt you have but if you post in the forums maybe we can give you some suggestions...I know with my situation it took me about 2 months to get on a plan...and now I do 2 things...I pay myself first...putting away $5 or $10. into a savings every paycheck before I do anything else...and on Sunday I allow myself 1 special treat...after balancing all the bills I take a small amount and use it for me...can be anything from my favorite candy bar...to renting a movie to share with a friend...a quick trip to Starbucks, etc. This feels like my reward for scraping through the week!! And if you stick around here...you will make friends!! There is a great group of people here from all over the states...no one judges and we all support each other....welcome!!

Welcome to the Community Mary :D Don't be embarrassed, we have all been there!! You ar in the right place and we are here to help you. It was really tough , and still is at times, when I first started getting debts paid off. It takes time, but it can be done. Morningstar is right, you have to treat yourself once in a while, even if it is a magazine, otherwise, you feel, what's the use. My mom taught me this, and said, that way you don't feel like all you do is work and see nothing for it, by treating yourself once in a while, it makes it a little easier. Feel free to ask questions, we are here to help..Karen

Don't feel bad about your situation, we have all been there. You know what you need to do to fix it, and that's a great start!
As another poster said, do be sure you take care of yourself though-- you need to treat you and you deserve it!
I know that after a loss in a family, that is a enough emotional stress in addition to financial stress, you have a right to feel 'down'. I hope you feel better and get out of debt soon :)
