Hi guys, just wanted to know i have been turned over to a collection agency for my credit one visa card. The question i have is that i was trying to negotiate a fair settlement because i lost my job and still have more cards to deal with. Anyways like i was saying i was trying to settle with them but they would not come down to meet my needs. Will i have a better shot negotiating with the collection agency? They are called alliance one. Any feed back would be appreciated thanks j

Really depends on the credit card company and the collection agency. I have had it work three ways.
I had 2 capital one cards and 1 providian.
None of the credit card companies would work with me but the collection agencies were a different story.
1. capital one card with Van Rugh, settled for a lesser amount and took a payment arrangement that I could handle, they are paid in full.
2. Attorney office of BLHM wanted payments that I could not afford in a short amount of time, 30 days. They sued me at the local magistrate, then accepted payment arrangements that I could afford, once the payment arrangement was made, we never went to court they kept filing continuane until the account was paid in full, happy to report, it is done.
3. Providian card, I have CACH suing me on this, however we have not been to court yet, it has been almost 9 months. They hired an attorney from my area, I think for intimidation. They still fail to provide me the discovery and this one has been a circus.

So it all depends on the situation, I would say, stand your ground, don't make any payment arrangements that you can't afford. With some of them, the longer they have it, the more flexible they become. Some will flat out sue you, in which case you have no control, but it is my understanding that once you do go to court a mediator gets involved. This has just been my experience. Hope this helps.
