Hello!
Where does one begin? ok..from square 1....I had colon cancer, time at home for recovering, lots of it! Discovered WEBTV..saw possible ways to make money online and thought..hmm..maybe, just maybe I can get my Credit card (1 then) paid off....well I HAD good intentions...
Fell for one network marketing promise after another, learning the hard way NOT to trust most folks online in biz..all they want is your money and efforts..
well 5 more Credit cards later...maxed to the gills...2 very part time jobs...live in low income housing 30% of income..(raises when income goes up)..

my church pastor and friends seeing me and my condition...suggested I try to get on disability..so went to the next county hospital ($20 per visit to community care health center)..tests she wanted and procedures done....totaling $5000 more (no insurance)..on top of some 20,000 + in CC debt...all due this month soon to go to late charges as the money is not there to pay them..and so far no disability...the dr ahead of me(orthopedist) may be able to but cannot pay him either...(also have severe scoliosis)...

My first plan was to pay my citi card...and use part of that to pay part of the 2000 hospital bill...(they want a plan too..there is none)....then I thought of consolidation...using what was to go to citicards to pay the $200 I heard most of them want...then a friend of mine said after talking to my CC card co's., not all of them will consolidate...
short of bankruptcy..what to do???

I don't even care if I end up with bad credit....after this exp I never plan to own another CC again....
I hear bankruptcy takes about 600 - 1000..if I cannot make an extra $500 month sure cannot do that....

ideas anyone?? I have no assets, do not drive...HS grad...
trying for retraining but that is in another county...

Thanks for any suggestions here....fyi..I live in wisconsin...for any specialized state rules etc....

Jan

I will suggest you speaking to a professional expert. Discuss about your debt situation and get some budgeting done on your finance. You should also try speaking to the credit card companies and explain your financial hardship. Most companies have suitable hardship programs for the needy people. You might qualify in one of their plan. If nothing works in your case, you may have to look into bankruptcy as the last resort. All the debts will be discharged in BK and you will have to rebuild your credit from the scratch.

Well we went to legal aid representative. they agreed with us, #7 is best method for me. Talked with a Bankruptcy atty in nearby town and he agreed to take me on...seems he even has a heart...one of our church members said he did her case for $50...

Today I was going over everything I have...it's almost a joke to list anything as most is given to me free, or so used no one would want it...some is older than me....50+ yrs...
but I will guestimate...I am so glad this forum is here...thank you everyone!

Evenin' Jan -

Sorry you've hit bottom like that. But the bright side is that there's nowhere to go from here but up!

On the medical insurance front... Have you applied for medicaid? Talk to your state Human Services agency about it. Every state has some provision for low-income medical coverage. The fact that you can qualify for HUD housing tells me that you're probably eligible. It's nothing to be ashamed of, either.

Just wanted to say I'm sorry to hear about all your medical issues, and the finances can't be helping the matter, if Bankruptcy is an option then do go and speak with someone, at least this way you may be able to have a fresh start. Being in debt can be extremely exhausting and scary but there are people who can help and by reading these forums you realize your not alone. Good luck.
