Hi, I have been recently contacted by Koupferstein and Associates regarding a loan that I have that is outstanding. This guy "sargent" is his name, does not want to listen to reason, I have told him that I will pay it down in installments and he out right said NO and that I would be charged with Fraud as well as a thourough investigation against me.

Can you provide any insight as to what I should do? He advised that if I paid 800.00 by noon today it would be fine, if not it would be 2400.00!

Looking forward to your reply.

Kind regards,
Tina

Tina -

this is a common threat by payday lenders who are operating illegally (unlicensed in your state). Who is the actual lender?

Check to see if they are licensed in your state, and file complaints against them with your state's Attorney General or the governmental body in charge of payday lenders. Go to paydayloaninfo.org to find your state law under "state information" on that site, and to find where to file a complaint and check for licensure.

They cannot arrest you for defaulting on a payday loan. And the "pay us $xxx by 12:00 or it will be higher" is a common threat.
