I haven't been able to really sleep in two days, maybe 'cuz I'm drinking 10 cans of coke a day...all since I've started trying to quit smoking. So damn hard NOT going to the store and buying a pack

morningstar, have you tried "the patch"? I know quite a few people that it helped with the craving. My brother is trying the "gum". He says it's ugly and brown and looks like crack (LOL!) but it has nicotine in it so he doesn't freak out with the craving. I support you 100% and hope you'll feel better soon. I know I should quit, but I don't have that willpower. You have this. Hang in there.

I should quit too, more power to you. I was going to buy the prescription medication they have out now that works but it is $129.00 for a 30 day supply. OMG!!!I think I will have my husband get the medication under his insurance so that it is not so expensive and we both can quit together. He used the patch, that worked for him. Keep up the good work, I wish you great success.

Thanks for the support everyone. So far, I've had a few sticks, but haven't given up and bought a pack yet. I've tried the patches, gum and lozenges in the past, but they didn't help much. I wish I could get the inhaler...that would probably do the trick.

Morningstar, hang in there it will get better. But until then I will sleep for the both of us lol j/k. I wish I had the willpower to quit. I just got a talking to by the doc. on wednesday about quitting. I told him that I can't quit for a couple of years yet. He asked me why. I told him my kids still live at home lol. He gave me the look

Tweety, your headaches will go away in a couple of days. I gave up soda almost 2 years ago and went through the same thing. I think they are worse than my migraines. I just drank lots of water (thats what I drink now) and took a bottle of advil where ever I went. Don't give in, because if you do they will only come back. But after your headaches are gone a soda here or there will not give you one again, only if you go back to drinking it on a regular basis. I was drinking about 3 cases of Mountain Dew a week (by myself  ) But when I gave that up and just drank water I also lost 70 pounds.

From diet sodas??? Because of the caffiene?? I drink decaf diet soda. If I have too much caffiene, I trip out. God, I'm like a two year old. LOL!

thatkind, I did it in "steps". Lord, it's like being an alcholic! LOL! First I stopped with the "hard stuff" (Coke) and switched to Diet. Then eventually switched to caffeine free diet. Baby steps. Same thing with sugar. Slowly weened myself off sugar. Now I use artifical sweetner. Baby steps with that one, too!

I NEED caffeine. Unfortunately I have an acid reflux problem, so I have to limit it. My dr. Said only 2 cups of coffee a day..But he never said how big a cup!

I love soda, could live on Coke in the can..None of that diet crap for me, tastes like toothpaste. Since I started seriously running competitively though, I pretty much had to cut out the sugar. So now I have one can on Saturday and one on Sunday..My reward for brutalizing my body with all the miles and those free weights.

No. Diet has no calories, no fat, no sugars, no carbs.

luke, well, if you've learned a lesson, our job here is done! LOL! Diet doesn't have anything in it though. Nothing. I don't understand how one can gain weight by drinking a lot of diet. There's a mystery in everything! I mainly drink decaf iced tea with artifical sweetner. So, I'll die like the lab rats do. Whatever. LOL!

The new medicine chantis is a very good medication for quitting, I was taking it and could have quit, my will power failed me. I want to start over again and see if it will work. For me I would have to decide just not to light up again with this pill, I am fine with that at work, but when I come home, I am a failure.

As to the diet sodas, someone told me the culprit is a part of the sweetener (a long chemical name I have forgotten). I saw a program on TV about food addicts, and one man was addicted to diet soda, 2 litres per day. That's over the top, but one day the man started going blind suddenly. He was taken to hospital and was told it was the diet soda over so long a period. He stopped drinking it and his sight was restored.

As to people gaining weight, well, maybe they think since there's no calories in the drink, they can eat a little more.

Ok..gonna add my own rant to this thread...I'm completely torqued tonight. My kids come home in T-minus 1 week...and I had a date Friday night...who expressed an interest in going out again tonight. Spoke to him at 4:30, said he was going to take a little nap and would call me later so we could get together. It's now nearly 9 p.m. I'm guessing we're not going out.

Why am I torqued? Ticked? Even a little miffed? Because my kids come home in one week, and I will not have much opportunity to date once they do! I love my kids, and have missed them terribly this summer..but having to cram 9 months worth of "single life" into 2.5 months hasn't been easy! LOL

Sorry...I guess I was really looking forward to this last "hurrah" tonight before the kids came home...and I'm bummed that it's not happening.

I DID!! GRRRRR....

sorry, just ticked. I called and left a message...and the fact that I got his voice mail means his phone is turned off, so yes, he's probably snoozing away. I sent him an IM online too...just told him I guess his nap lasted longer than expected. Guess I'll do some laundry and get my mind off it. :-(
