I have a number of charge-offs. The problem is that they have been sent to collections. I paid the collection agency. Will they or do they contact the original creditor and so that they can note on my report that it was paid?

How do you handle that?

Hi, and welcome to the site. You need to send a validation letter to the original collector asking them what it is etc. There are many drafts of this letter here. They need to tell you what is going on, not you telling them. Try to relax, and someone else with more infomation and advise will be along soon to help you. You have come to the right place.

thanks

In most cases they do, but dont rely on them, you can send the proff to the original creditor yourself to let them know you paid the collection agency. I am in the process of paying off charge off's. The collection agency send me letters stating the debt is paid and i either fax the letter to the original creditor or they will call the collection agency and verify if the debt has been paid.
