These guys are professional rip off artists. They deduct the fee for the loan out of your bank account every 2 weeks. In my case it was $90 for a $300 loan, every two weeks. I understand that payday loans are VERY expensive, so that is not where my beef lies with this so called "company". This is how they set this up; you have to contact them when you are ready to pay off the loan, but they wont answer the phone, answer voicemail messages, or answer email requests for payoffs or loan documentation. Then because of a personal change I closed my bank account and opened another elsewhere. I made several more attempts to contact Platinum B in order to take care of this $390 that I owe, to no avail. So I figured they would get ahold of me, now that they weren't getting any money AT ALL from me. Oh, they got ahold of me alright. On Aug. 24th at 7am, the collection agency, a group of Indian men in Florida who barely spoke english called me at home and at work threatening to have me arrested, get me fired from my job, and that they were going to sue me in court if I didn't send $850.00 that very day via MoneyGram. It took me a few days to figure out who this was and why they were calling me. Once I did, I called Dustin Dernier at 1-866-722-2770. It took me several tries of calling and getting a voicemail message, hanging up and calling right back before he ACTUALLY picked up the phone. He told me that it was out of his hands and that I was in default. The loan had been sent to collections. He gave the number for the collections BROKER, not the collections dept. The broker had me leave a message with all of my info and they would let me know who the collections dept was that had my account. I still havent heard from them.... However, I got smart and called Dustin and got his email from the voicemail message he has recorded and sent him an email letting him know that the collections dept was doing everything in an illegal manner. I let him know that I filed a complaint with the FTC & the Florida Atty Generals office. I also told him that I had found an atty that would take my case. If he would bring my account back "in house", I would pay the amount that I owed and NO MORE.
Anyway, he agreed to bring the loan back "in house" if I paid the $300, a $90 loan fee, the $90 loan fee that was returned to them by my old bank, and a $30 fee for the returned check. So in total I am paying $510.00.
He asked me if there was another bank account that I would like for them to start debiting fees from and I told him to take a hike. I will never give out bank info to someone like these guys again. If I gave them this info, all they would do was take more than I had authorized, and they would do it every month until I did have to sue them to get it to stop.
I told him that I would pay the $510.00 via money order, through the mail. I have yet to get a mailing address. I see on the site that there are several that have been given out, but I want one straight from him, so that I know they get it. I am going to be sending it certified mail, so that it can be tracked and I get a reciept of delivery when it gets there. I don't trust these people. I will never take out another payday loan as long as I live. What a disaster. So, I wait for the mailing address...
Please, BEWARE of this "company". They are frauds and cheats, not to be trusted!!! You have to stand up for yourself and not let these sleaze bags intimidate you. Don't back down and let them know that you mean business!

There are many others on the board who have hard experiences with SJM Marketing. I have read a few posts from the VP of SJM Marketing who used to post here. He sounded like a nice guy. Have you got any chance to talk with him and resolve the matter?

Now that you will be paying $510 on the loan account with them, make sure that you have all papers complete. You need to have full documentation in case some dispute arises later. And be sure to get your account updated and a PIF copy sent to your mailing address. Get everything acknowledged in writing before sending the money

Read this thread below. There's a post from the VP

Ok...I have dealt with these people. They sent your defaulted loans to united pay services. They are out of Jacksonville FL. DO NOT pay these people. File a complaint with your state also. I got the addy for sjm marketing from the VP himself. So any letters you need to send need to be sent to the west indies. That is where my state had to send their letters.

SJM Marketing
Edith Sollmon Bulding
P.O. Box 636
Charlestown, Nevis
West Indies

But I bet that I-Collect is the "broker" right?

The last I heard from United Pat Services was on Feb $th at 7:33 am. And when I called them back madder than a wet hen I just reemed them a new one. 1. for calling before they were supposed to. He said he was sorry about that, well too bad for them.Because it happened a couple of times before. Plus I told them that if they want me to pay them then they have to send me something in the mail. They asked me for my info and I told them that they have it already and to send it to me or f-off. Well I guess they decided to do the second choice because I haven't heard from them since. Or the AG's told them to back off. So I am not sending them one cent more. Besides, united pay services is under investigation by many people including FL and some other law officials in MANY states and the FBI.

I was told that because this company has my personal information that I have to call Social Security and let them know about possible fraud with my number. And to contact my local police about this company.

These guys must have been busy last week I received a call Friday afternoon threatening to have me arrested at my job. Then called Saturday morning and again at 5 am on Monday. By Monday morning I had filed complaints and had calls back on a couple of the complaints and research things on this site and felt better about knowing I wasn't going to jail. They were horrible. I couldn't understand a thing they were saying and did nothing but yell and tell me I had to pay almost $1000 or go to jail. It was the worst experience ever. Learned my lesson

sorry you had to "live" that, mom. It's horrible. These guys are terrible. Trying to scare people to death just to get money out of them. Horrible. I just hope that everyone who has this experience will, please, report these people to the correct agencies.

To close down all pdl's? That would be wonderful. But to close down all pdl's, store front/internet, it would sure take a lot of work, going through a lot of red tape, and take a lot of time. Of course, that's our goal that one day pdl's won't be allowed at all. However, I don't see it happening any time soon. Unfortunately.

So if I want to file a FBI complaint, what address to I put? THe one in the West Indies? And after I file the complaint, so I pay these guys or what? I would really love some valueable input here. What happens if I don't pay them? I bet they make my life miserable by continuing to call my job and home. And if I do pay them, how do I get documentation from them that proves that the debt is all taken care of?
Im pretty torn on this issue right now.

Don't pay them. Plus they will keep calling your job. They did mine until I informed them that I can get the recording of their calls they madfe to my employer, plus my HR director told them to stop calling or she would contact the police. They then stopped calling my job.

If you file a complaint with the FBI use ALL addys you have. They know them well. But make sure you name united pay service in the complaint also. Because they were the ones calling you so early in the morning.

You won't get into any trouble by not paying these people. I haven't, and it's been months. Good luck getting ANY papers from them. They won't send you any, even if you ask for them.

Make sure you file complaints with your own state also. They can help you with the fight with these people.

Here is some info I got when I talked with the VP of Platinum B.
Platinum B does not make the loans(so they say) they just forward your info to the bank that does make the loans. And that bank would be SJM marketing, and they are the ones located in the west indies. So you didn't default with Platinum B you defaulted with SJM (so confusing  ). But then the part I don't understand is if I wanted to send platinum B papers why would I send them to SJM? Sounds kinda fishy. So in you complaints make sure you mention that info. Because they would be very happy to hear about these off-shore lenders.

Don't be worried. Just keep coming back here to ask questions and we will be here to support you through this with this comany. I have been there with this company so I know how you feel. Plus I would be the first one to go with you on getting these people lol.

Tell the people at work that you are not allowed to get calls at work. Or if they ask for your supervisor that he/she is not available. They will be able to pick these calls out. And if they threaten arrest if they cannot speak to you let them know that they know that is illegal and to stop calling or they will turn this matter over to the authorities, and that these calls are being recorded(even if they are not). They will change their tune once they hear that.

Wait to pay these people until you hear from the places you filed complaints to. They may reduce what you owe. They do not hold a license in any state to lend. So you only owe what you borrowed. No loan set up fees or admin fees, what ever they want to call it. Plus I would check out what your state allowes for a nsf fee. They tried to charge me $30 and my state allowes only $15 plus they are allowed to try and present the check twice and they tried a ton of times. So I nailed them there also. I also sent copies of my bank statements to my DFI so she could see what they were doing to my checking account after I closed it.

Just keep asking questions until you don't feel so confused. We will help you along the way.

I will be gone for the weekend, so don't think that I am ignoring this. I will check back when I get back. So stay calm and if you have caller ID check that before you answer the phone  hope I helped you a little bit more on this.

I am also wondering if I should find an atty that will give me some advice as to what to do if they do start calling again... I don't have time for any more problems with these guys. My husband is a little concerned about me not paying this, but I don't feel right about sending this money to them in the West Indies either.... What do you guys think?

tahiti, it's whatever you feel comfortable doing. If you want to call an attorney and ask his advise as to how to handle the telephone calls, then by all means, call one. It never hurts to ask what you can or can not do regarding these telephone calls. I understand your husbands concern, but explain to him that you're not trying to "get out of paying them". You need to know where you stand before paying anything. I, personally, would not send money to the West Indies. And, that is just my personal opinion. Call an attorney regarding the telephone calls. See what they have to say. Doesn't hurt. I would wait on paying this though. See what the agencies have to say.

Okay lets think about this. Everyone is mad cause a guy from india is calling and threating them @ home and @ work. Why is this man calling? Cause you defualted on your loan. Maybe if you would have pauid the loan off like you agreed none of this would have happened. Another think for you frauds who get loans and don't pay the back, stop complaining about SJM/ Platinum B. The india people work for the collection ageny. Not SJM/Platinum. So start a damn forum for them. SJM has nothing to do with your account after it gets sent to collections.
Further more, about the FBI. Yes, lets stop them from focusing on terrorist and murderers and child molesters so they can fine out why poeple are calling you at 7am. And yes get an attorney so SJM can send them your contract that you signed and send it to them. Then your attorney will laugh in your face for wasting their time cause SJM has a legal team that gets paid very well!!!
Last but not least, if you contact them @ 866/722/2770 and press 0 you will get someone and not only get a rep but a rep that will be more than willing to work something out. SJM has A LOT of customers and the 10 or so people that post on this web site are people that got loans and had no intention of paying them back. They thought they were going to stick it to the man. Now your crying on here cause you found out we want our money back. PAY YOUR LOAN and you wil have a very pleasent experince like the rest of their customers. Duh

Tahiti, Please ignore The Insider. We often get this type of post. Please do as you and Cannr had discussed. I had nine pdl's, three of which I never applied for but the deposit just showed up in my account. This person is trying to scare you. You see, I have overpaid all of mine and I now have three companies which have not only marked my account paid in full but I also was refunded my overpayments. The refunds are not common but if we were the ones who are acting illegally, why are many of us winning our cases with the BBB, AG's and other agencies?

I received a call from United Pay Services yesterday saying that I had to pay them $700 dollars in 30 mins or they would put me in jail. They kept calling my work phone as well as my home phone. Making threats and beidng very rude. They seemed to not be able to speak english too well. Does anyone have any suggestions about what i should do. They had me pretty shook up.

You are not going to jail. I hate these people that tell you that. This is a huge clue to you that you are dealing with an illegal company. Rather than abide by laws, they rely on scaring people into paying. You are not going to jail. Can you give us a little more information and we can help you out?

I just got a call from my mother-in-law that these people called me from 888-269-9036 and gave her a docket #. My mother-in-law was freaking out like I was in trouble with the law or something and had a court case pending. Anyway, I called this number just to see who they were and the lady answered and said "Check & Corporate Services" I hung up and went and googled the number but while I was doing that my cell phone rang it was a call from 904-493-9444 (which was this same company). I just answered and hung up. After doing some research, I found that they handle mostly payday loans (and they can be from years ago) and some minor collection stuff. They use a lot of baloney when they call. They will threaten and will hassle you but once you ask them for anything in writing they usually chill.

I also found out that they can't keep any workers there because of the tactics that they are asked to use (although I think some people like it). They even have a job position posted on craigs list..how stupid!

http://jacksonville.craigslist.org/csr/1509526145.html

People, don't sweat these little pions....they are blowing smoke. If you owe the debt, pay your original creditor if you can, when you can, but don't for one second believe that these people are going to send someone to arrest you!!
