Is there any way to find whether I owe $$$ to where, besides credit report?
I check my report regularly, yet suddenly I received a letter...I thought I paid off whatever from old time.
I did settled with a few creditors and collectors last year, then I thought I am debt free...
I'd like to know if I more than this new one.
Thanks.

Is the company that sent you the letter reporting on your credit copy? If so, you need to request for the account statement from the company and know the latest standing of the debt. The most important thing that you need to find out is the age of the debt. If the account is already seven years old from the date of first delinquency, the creditor cannot report that item on your credit file. Be aware that a partial payment will renew the SOL and the account will be listed back on your credit copy. Legal actions will also come into effect if you default until the debt is paid. Ask the company to give you more information about the debt before you make any agreements.
