I know I have things on my credit that are older than my states statute of limitations (MA=6 years) but when dealing with collection agencies, they have told me that the old account was bought by some other company. Does this restart the "7 years" that something stays on your credit, because it was purchased by a new company?

Also, my sister just told me that someone called her number- which I have never given out as a reference or to anyone for any reason, and asked for me. The message left a callback number and an ID code. I looked the number up but can't find anything- but I really just want to find out how they got my sister's number. We even have different last names- and shes only had this number since May.

The 7 year mark is figured from the date of first delinquency, not from when a new CA buys the debt.

As for getting your sister's number, I haven't a clue..but CA's are tricky tricky and will use whatever means they can get their grubby little minds around to track you down and harass you into paying.

You were skip traced down. I wouldn't expect that you sister will be the only one recieving phone calls looking for you. This usualy happens when a collection agency doesn't have a # for you or they have your number and you never answer it so they will continue to find a number to reach you.

I live in NY and was issued a Cross Country Credit card in 2001 which was supposed to help rebuild my credit! What a joke. They gave me a credit limit of $500, none of which was available for use, due to all the initial fees. Here it is 7 yrs later and they are on all 3 credit bureaus, showing as a charge off, under the name APPLIED BANK for $1285!! After doing some online research, this company has class action lawsuits in several states, NY being one of them, due to their rip off tactics. Some people even say that after paying it just to have it removed, that it still wasnt removed. Should this not fall off after 7 yrs?? What to do? I've not received anything in writing from them and no collection calls. But I'm afraid of being sued. I have had it investigated with all 3 credit bureas, and they come back that it was found to be my account. PLEASE HELP!! I am trying to re-rebuild my credit, and they are severely impacting my credit score.
