Seems like it doesn't rain but it pours.

I can't go into great detail here, but I need some prayer & good thoughts sent my way for a situation that has suddenly come up in my life. It's not financial, but more of a personal nature, and it's something that is going to make my life pretty difficult until my kids are old enough to be out on their own. It's not likely to change, either.

Please just keep us in mind and say a prayer for us when you get a chance, for my peace of mind and that my kids will understand things in the future. Sorry for the vague post.

suebee, I hope you're okay. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I hope things get better soon.

If there is one thing that I know about kids, they are stronger than we think. They can go through some stuff that would make some adults run and scream and hide. They are so intune to what a parent needs that they know before the parent does. I found the best thing to do with kids is to be absolutley honest with them, they can take. You will be there for each other and in the end will be stronger for it.

in my prayers,
luke

Thanks again everyone - there are new wrinkles in my situation, and things are really moving fast. I may not be on here much, except to answer a few quick questions or try to help out a little. I am looking into a few things to make our situation better, and it will mean some drastic changes to our life. Just keep us in your thoughts, please.

Kash, I really appreciate the offer - I don't want to take anyone's points away from them - I know how precious they are! Just keep us in mind and send a little prayer our way. I have made a firm decision to proceed with converting my Chapter 13 to a Chapter 7. It's a frightening decision to have to make, and has caused quite a bit of stress, which has only added to the situation I'm dealing with regarding my kids right now.

Thank you all very much - I appreciate the support. I have just found out this morning that my van needs over $1000 worth of work, so this is going to get quite interesting before all is said and done, between the bankruptcy conversion, the house issue, and the van. I have been pre-approved for a grant on the van repair, so that's not really a big issue - just have to decide what repairs to make and what not to, because the grant is only up to $1,000 and the repairs will be over that amount. I might be able to put a couple of them off until later, but there are some urgent ones that would stop me using the van if they don't get fixed soon. My guardian angel must be riding with me, because this van has made two long out of state trips so far this year, with no problems!

Sue- make sure you get someone you can trust on your van. They can tell you what ones are needed now, and what can wait.

Unfortunately, I have had alot of people try to rip me off because I am a woman. I learned to take a male with me- even if he doiesn't know anything about cars!!

I took my oldest son, who know less about cars than I do, and he was looking under the hood like he knew what he was doing  The guy then decided that some of my repairs could wait until later- not what he told me when I was by myself!!

Good Luck- you've got lots of guardian angels with you, and lots of prayers too!!..KAren :D

Thanks Karen! I have a funny story about an oil change that really applies here....

I had a Toyota Previa at one time, a van that I really loved, but in some areas of the country, is not very common. Especially in GM & Ford country - Michigan. Very few foreign vehicles around here - driving one is tantamount to sacrilege!

Anyway, after I first moved back here with my Toyota van a few years back, I needed an oil change. I went to my local quick-oil-change place, and pulled into the garage. Now...I'm not terribly mechanically inclined, but I know how to put oil in my vehicle, where the dipstick is, how to check the fluids, etc. So when I pulled in, and the guys in the shop popped the hood, I asked if they wanted me to get out of the van. "No, ma'am - you stay in the van, we'll be done shortly!" I asked again if they were SURE they didn't want me to get out. Again, they told me to stay put. Pretty soon I had 5 men standing around the front end of my van, hood raised, and I could hear them muttering to each other. "I don't even know how much oil to put in this damn thing!" "Where the hell is the dipstick??" "What IS this thing?"
"Dipstick?? I don't even see the darn engine!"

The manager came over to my window and asked where my manual was for the van. I handed it over. I asked once again if I should get out. "No, ma'am - we're fine, we've just never seen one of these vans before." So I continued to sit.

By this time, there are 4 more vehicles lined up behind me for their "quick" oil changes, and waiting as my 10-minute oil change stretches into 30 minutes..then 45. People started leaving. The manager started handing out vouchers for free oil changes to the people that remained in line behind me.

Eventually, the manager came over to me and said, "Ma'am, I feel like an idiot. But where the heck is your dipstick??"

I grinned and said, "It's under me. Do you want me to get out NOW??"

In a Toyota Previa, the engine curves under the body of the van - it's not under the hood. The dipstick is under the driver's seat. I had to show him how to get to it.

That'll teach them to treat a female driver like she's an idiot about her own vehicle! LOL
