Should I file or not????

Here is the delima I am facing.
I am at the end stages of a long nasty divorce, made some mistakes in the divorce process and was given sole responsibility for a 17K repo that we both had when I lost my job for about 8 months. I have several bills from when I lost my job last year that I have been unable to be paid due to the amount of child support, kids car insurance and normal living expenses I have.
I have regain good employment in the last year and make a good living and stated a part-time job a few months ago to help cover things. However, once I pay support, kids car insurnace, their extra expenses and just my normal living expenses, I dont have enough left over to pay everyone that is left over from the job loss time period.
I am know if I file BK - the car loan company will go after my ex since she is on the loan I am worried about that issue if I file. I tried the debt consolidation process but the monthly payments are more than I have left over each month. I live in NC so I know companies can not garnish me, but I want to resolve these things as they are weighing heavely on my mind daily. I get calls and letters each day and it's driving me crazy.
If it wasnt for the repo amount, my other debts are not that large and could be paid off over time. However when I pay the repo company like I have (50.00) a month, the debt keeps growing.
Any suggestions would be appreciated!!!!!!!!

dave - I'm sorry to hear of your divorce. I understand this

I'm sorry to hear of your divorce. I understand this must be a difficult time for you. Been there myself.
I would suggest talking to a qualified bankruptcy attorney regarding the situation with the joint debt you have with your ex-wife. An attorney will be able to give you the best advice possible on how to handle this. Most bankruptcy attorneys offer a free initial consultation, so you can find out quite a bit there.
Is it possible for your ex-wife to have her name taken off the debt, so that it remains only in your name?
