I would be interested to know more about the return receipt electronic, too. It seems like a neat concept. :-)

Well in theory the way it works is that instead of getting the little green card mailed to you, as soon as it scans they send you an email of the signed receipt. It is faster and supposedly safer. It also only costs 85 cents. You can also access the info just like if you tracked it.
Wouldn????????t that scan be only that the letter/pack
Wouldn????????t that scan be only that the letter/package was sent out for delivery? Or does the carrier have a gadget similar to what UPS uses?

No, it is supposed to track it and confirm delivery. The electronic receipt I think is supposed to include the signature, thats it what I gathered anyhow. I tried it only once and the letter seems to be lost...however, this could have even happened with doing it by green card as well..so I may try again to see.
I wonder if it's like the UPS or Fed Ex signed packages thing.

I was going to use the electronic return receipt, but when I questioned the people at the post office about how it worked, none of them seemed to know, so I told them to forget it. It must be fairly new or something...but you would think they would train their employees. :?

I was actualy advised against useing it from an employee at the post office. There are some problems with it and it isn't checking the mail properly or something.

Yeah I am starting to get that idea...the post office doesn't seem to know where the letter is, the rep I talked to was pretty stumped.

Ok I went to do some mailings today and got the lowdown on Electronic Receipt. The lady told me that it works just like the green card, but faster, since it gets logged at the post office. It also includes the signature as well.
I decided to try it again with two letters, I will keep this updated with how they go.

Well this time everything went smoothly, I got the return receipt in my email for both letters I sent. It states where it was delivered, who signed for it and provides a scan of the signing.
Very quick process, I mailed on 14th (friday) and it got delivered on the 17th so a total of 3 days if you count saturday.
I think I will do a few more letters, but so far I now like this service..especially since it only costs 85 cents and if I went with green card, I'd still be waiting a few days for it to get here. :D
