Okay I am getting calls from allied interstate daily even on the weekends. Should i give the guy my credit card number so I can pay for the account because I am aware that I have a balance i need to pay for.

Wait, big!! Before you go giving anyone your credit card information, please post more information! If you provide us with more information, we may be able to help you here. Please do not just give your credit card information out. Please post more information so that we can help you. :D

As Allied Interstate is listed as a collection agency on the BBB, what kind of debt is it?

The debt is from a black expressions book club that I was unable to pay at the time and now I am able too. He called me and told me that Black expresisons had reported me and that I needed to pay. I told him that I didnt have the money at the time and I would not have it until september the 1st which I thought, well he kept asking for my credit card number or checking account I told him i did not feel comfortable gvivng it out on the phone and could he send me a letter well he could not do that I guess so he kept pressing it told me to give him my credit card number and he would take it out on the 1st of september, I did not trust that, he told me that I was going to get him in trouble with his supervisor and that he will transfer me to her I simply hung up, i guess he did not understand, I even asked him kindly to just call back on the 1st well they called back every single day

big, I suggest this. And someone may come along behind me and correct me, and that's fine. You need accurate information. Do you have the address of this collection agency? You can send them a debt validation letter. This can buy you some time. They will have to validate the debt. Do not give them your bank account information or your credit card information. And for this customer service person telling you that you're going to "get him in trouble with his boss" kind of makes me question how legit this company is. Send them a letter requesting debt validation. And, if they call again, do not take the calls.

Yes, big, what morningstarr said! LOL! Send it certified return receipt. I know it bites because it costs money, but it's worth it. And, my God, keep copies of EVERYTHING! If you need anything, just post! :D

You have gotten some excellent advice Big! That collection company is known to not play fair. You have the RIGHT to make sure they are either collecting for the original creditor, or have bought the debt themselves and to know exactly what you owe and for what ( to make sure they do not hike the debt up).

Have you checked your credit report? You should because if it is listed you can perhaps get a "pay for delete" otherwise all they will do is update it to 'paid' and it doesn't help your credit score any...as a matter of fact, if it was an older account with no activity for some time, having it update to paid can actually make your credit score worse!

You want to make sure that what is being reported is what they are saying you owe. Does the amount seem right to you?

If they call you tell them that you are awaiting validation of the debt and hang up. Also keep note of when they call because once they get the validation letter they can't continue to try and collect from you until they validate.

When/if they validate then you can send them another letter offering to pay the amount if they agree to remove the listing entirely from your credit report and to never report it again.

Our answering machine kept showing that Allied Interstate had called sometimes a couple times a day everyday. Not knowing who they were, when I was finally home when they called I answered the phone and got a nothing but silence - apparently a machine doing autodials. So I didn't bother trying to answer again. Then we got messages left from them saying they were calling concerning collecting a debt. We never answered the phone and they haven't called for a while. We don't owe anybody anything so we figure if they have something legitimate to talk to us about they could send a letter.

This is a email I sent after so many phone calls/voice mails that I have had enough:
TANYA LADOUCER ??? to Gagan.Agarwal
show details 2:27 PM (8 minutes ago)

ADDENDUM to precious email from me: Let me make myself PERFECTLY clear, this is the first time I have been able to contact you until now. You have called my husband EVERY DAY, always leaving a suspiciously threatening voice mail. The last time I talked to you, you threatened to have Jim arrested and all kinds of other despicable things simply for the shear reason to harass. You had better read the law a little better as you are dangerously, (if not already) crossing the line. You have called after 9:00 pm all the while threatening jail time and other DISGUSTING things. You even called my husband, in the hospital, where he nearly died of C-DIFF. Enough is enough.

DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE my expertise of the law in question. You are now notified if I or my husband receive one more harassing phone call I will contact the Attorney General and start proceedings to sue YOU AND YOUR COMPANY FOR HARASSMENT and anything else my attorney decides. This is not a threat, this is a promise. In this day and age, this kind of harassment won't be tolerated. Next, I have asked you repeatedly to send me a bill and you have refused. I have no problem honoring my obligation but until I receive a statement, in the mail, you will not hear from me.

I have researched Allied Interstate and you have a VERY bad reputation for illegal tactics, so I am not about to take your word for anything. Also the fact that your company hires people who have such an accent, as yours is, making it almost impossible to understand much of the conversation, is suspect. What came out very clear was that you would have my husband arrested and he would go to jail. You also stated that my mother and daughter would be held responsible and suffer the same fate as my husband. Not all Americans are idiots and that is what you tried to make me feel like. I have congestive heart failure and after you called I had an episode requiring medication. I did not raise my voice or curse until you get VERY nasty with me.

In this country, kindness goes a lot further than threats and intimidation. I do not agree to anything when I can't understand the language that is spoken. Now, if I do not receive some kind of paperwork in the mail (at the address below) I will start proceedings to make sure YOU AND YOUR COMPANY do not treat people in this way again. BTW, all voice mails are being saved so I have proof of your violation of the law. You may send any correspondence to: PO BOX???????????????.

You may reply to this email if you must, but I am now stating that there will be no further
communication from me or my husband and the phone CALLS must now stop. I also do not want a plethora of letters or other printed correspondence, which will also be considered harassment. One letter will suffice. Of this I am VERY serious. Word to the wise!
Sincerely,
Tanya Ladoucer

P.S. I tried to download the enclosed other part of the email you sent but it must have been corrupted.

Ok. So here's my problem with this company. I keep getting phone calls for my husbands ex-step-dad. As well as my sister does and my husband's step-mom (which is crazy in itself) I mean they will call my house 7 or 8 times a day looking for this man. Even after I have asked how they got my number and why they are calling my house for him. It's driving me crazy. Any suggestions on how to deal with this one?

Sorry, but accounts going back 25 years are WAYYYYYY out of SOL. When your division of Allied buys up crap like like, you deserve to be told to FOAD. Common sense and the law should tell you that the debt is not enforceable...and yet you guy threaten legal action which you have no intention of taking or can legally do.

If you are getting pissed off with debtors, you are in the wrong field. Just your tone of writing tells me you are a crappy collector. I collected and trained collectors for almost a decade....you would have been out on your hiney at my agency.

I work for allied interstate and you would be surprised at the amount of money we cAn save you I've seen someone save 5000 so if they call say you want a rehab they'll ask for a lot of money at first but keep working your way down unroll they put the avp on and you shouldn't have to put any money down and it should end up being a resonable monthly payment

I was receiving Phone calls from allied interstate every 60 seconds for 10 min straight. So i logged on to this web site in hopes of reserching my legal rights, and I must say that it helped me greatly. Thank you very much. I also wanted to say that when I asked them to send me a certified letter of validation, The man hung up! What a relief. Thanks again.

Allied Interstate started calling my number asking for someone I never even heard of. Sometimes, after I told them there was no one by that name at my number they would simply call and hang up after I answered. I called them and asked them to stop calling my number. They said they didn't have my number in their database and asked me if I had any other numbers. I refused to give them any other numbers. After several days of asking them to stop calling I told them they would receive 100 calls for every time they continued to call me. I did that for a couple of days. Calling and hanging up, calling and repeating "Stop calling (xxx)xxx-xxxx", or simply calling and waiting for them to hang up. I did this 100 times for every time they called me after I asked them to stop. Within a couple days I didn't get any more calls. If everyone did this it might really get them to reconsider their tactics as their costs would rise.

I co-signed a student for my daughter in 2007 while my daughter was going to school. My daughter was supposed to pay it back after she graduated and working. At the time of this loan my daughter was 20 years old. Because her field of work "baking and patisserie", it's been very difficult for her to get a permanent job. The jobs are very limited unless she moves to a huge city, like NY, Los Angeles, Miami, etc. She does not want to move to any of those places but loves what she does. So, she defaulted on paying the debt. Then in September 2009, my daughter received a VERY threatening phone call. The caller told her that she had to pay (some astronomical amount of thousands of dollars), and they had already contacted their lawyer, and that she had until 5 pm to give them that amount. So, my husband and I called them right away. They didn't only pressured us to give them nearly $2,000, but they had access to our bank accounts even before we gave them the money. It was one of the scariest moments I've experienced. The caller basically said "you have this amount (said the amount)" in this account, and you have this other amount (said the amount), etc." So, we agreed for them to take out $200 a month. I paid that amount for a whole year, and they would send me monthly statement with my balance. Now, I not only think this is harassment, but a serious offence having access to our bank accounts and our private identification information.
Then two months ago, my debit card wasn't working even though I had money in my account. I called my bank and my bank told me that they were issuing me another card, and that there was a company that had been withdrawing from my account. And that they were not a valid company. The clerk didn't tell me the name of the company, but the only company that had been withdrawing $200 every month from account was Allied Interstate. So, the withdrawings stopped.
Today, they called my work. I didn't speak but they left a message with someone who had nothing to do with the student loan and told the person that it was regarding my daughter by saying her name. This is serious harassment!
My daughter is un-employed now. She lost her job a month ago. The place where she was working is a small business, and orders started to slow down, so, as a result she lost her job.
Please, help me figure out what to do? I definitely don't want them to call me at work, and don't want them to tell someone else my daughter's confidential matter. I don't want to pay a debt to a company that's a scam. Please, let me know what to do!!!!

I doubt the debt is a scam...,.sounds like a private student loan and they will sue both you and your daughter,. Allied is hardly a scam outfit....they are vendors for the US department of education and do collect on private student loans.

If the CA was calling for information on your daughter without disclosing the debt, there is nothing illegal about that, nor is it harassment.

You as cosignor are just as legally responsible for this debt as your daughter and they will pursue you starting with a judgment, then wage garnishment and then bank levy. You need to find a way to resolve this.

I just started getting calls. I do have student loans but I am still in school. I skipped a semester but have not withdrawn. I received a letter stating that loan payments will start on 6/1/2011. But I am still in school. I am wondering if they are prematurely starting to harass me.
