I came to the US 5 years ago from a small country in Europe, called Bulgaria. We didnt have credit cards there (well we unfortunatelly do have them now) back then. We didnt have leases, credit reports, collection agencies. And I never knew what credit was.

5 years later, I am preparing myself to fight my 20K debts. A wonderful mix of credit cards, personal lines of credit, school loans and thousands wasted in fees & interest.

Wish me luck, because I will need it :?

stefan, you make so much sense. The absense of "living high on the hog" is a good thing. I am a firm believer in "less is more and more is less". I know people that only pay with cash...period. They have all that they want and nothing more. No worries, and freedom come with that. That is where I want to be. I was not born with a credit card, loan, etc. in my hand nor will I die with one. So in between this time I do not want them either.

all the best,
Luke

Hey Luke,

I was stupid enough to keep paying with credit cards because of thankyou points and other small rewards. Finally realized how much I am sinking into debt. And it is really funny. I am in my second semester in college now. My major - Finance & Investments. People would expect from me to manage their money. And I have a problem with my own. Lol!

Welcome to the community stefan :D Alot of use have been, or are where you are, but there is help and hope!

Are these debts still with the original creditor, or in collections, and how old are the debts.

If you signed up for the free credit counseling, someone will contact you and discuss options you may have concerning your debt, such as debt consolidation.

Before you go with any company-check them out with the BBB, and others who have used them successfully.

Feel free to ask questions, and good luck..KAren
