why is the president making it harder and harder for the public to get assistance these days it is so hard now a days to get food stamps and medical assisant without them saying you make to much i mean some people only make enough to keep a roof over their heads and they live paycheck to paycheck and in two years the social security benefits are gonna be running out so what will the economy do then i mean this is probaly off the subject but it is the truth it is a topic we have to think about

Public assistance is a joke. When I was evicted, I sought something like this and decided even I was better off figuring things out on my own. In my experience, public assistance means sticking you in a crowded, crime-ridden apartment complex, with very little compensation and no guarentee of help. No thanks!
The economy is doing surprisingly well...better than it used to. Republicans (POLITICIANS), and I'm kicking my own butt when saying this, have never been good at handling money. As much as I disliked Clinton, the economy was great during his term.

Some people who are at the bottom of the pit, are experiencing it because it's their fault. As ttthayden said, you need to take responsibility for your actions. YOU have to deal with the consequences of your decisions...and there is ALWAYS a better way out.

I see what you are saying.

I think alot of it boils down to those that have taken advantage of the system. Of course we don't hear the success stories, but we sure hear alot of the abuses. Sadly, one of my sisters is one of those abusers. And it colors the way I see the system. :(

That is so true. There are so many people that abuse the system on it and the ones that truly need it temporarily are having a tough time getting on. It can get tough raising kids and working and not having help.

TTThayden it is true that you dont hear the success stories, only the bad ones.

Rhonda, well you understand where I am coming from and it is alot of people who abuse it.... But you know my son shouldn't have to suffer for other people's action now he is in the cross fire

i'm not saying that you meant my son!But some people do have to have assistance that can't provide food, clothing,or shelter. And belive me I was there before on food stamps and welfare so I know how it is.And for someone who has never been on welfare or anything doesn't really know how hard it is.And I agree it should be to make sure the children are taken care of!

If your children (and this goes for anyone), are affected by your debt or financial status, keep in mind that they can still live happy, carefree lives---there are plenty of fun activities for both children and parents that cost little or no money--trips to the beach, a picnic, community events and some museums!
A great place to buy good children's clothing at low prices are your local thrift shops and Goodwill. :-)

You made a good point Lindsey! I have discovered all the things I can do "free" of charge with my kids. I think ch's point though is that she needs the assistance for her sons medical condition as well. Sometimes I myself wish I would have made better choices with my finances. But I have learned from my mistakes.
