I think I have 2 collection agencies trying to collect on the same account. The account is being settled with the original creditor.

I received paperwork from one of the companies (along with extremely frequent and derogatory calls), so I was able to send them a Cease and Desist letter. The other company only leaves automated messages and when I call, I just get another recording. What should I do? Can I send a Cease and Desist letter without having any real information about the account they are trying to collect on (I can only assume it is this particular account)? Or should I send a debt validation letter, including a cease and desist for all telephonic communication?

Thanks a bunch!

Not sure about the debt validation if it is possible definitely do that! There should be no question as to what debt you supposedly owe and if you're dealing with the original creditor you are doing the best you can! definitely send a cease and desist at the very least. credit validation would be really helpful too.

I'll see your two CA's collecting on the same debt, and raise you one! I have three different CA's collecting on the same account.
The funny thing is, I did receive letters from all three of them and they were all sent within days of each other. I've already sent out the DV/C&D combo letters and am waiting to see what I get back from them.
My question is: How the heck does that happen? I'm not sure how one OC can send out a debt to three CA's.
I also want to say how much I appreciate this site and the great information on it; I have learned more about
CA's and credit in the last month and it has helped me through a very troubling time. Because of medical problem, I have been unemployed since February of this year. As you can imagine, I have gotten seriously behind on debts. I am finally attempting to return to work tomorrow and I hope I can start taking steps to get these debts taken care of.
And for all those negative people that think the people on this site are all "deadbeats" and just don't want to pay their bills, I say "Screw You!!!" Until you can understand what someone is going through and what challenges they have had that may have caused their financial problems, you really shouldn't try passing judgment on them. I knew someone that was like that, he called people that paid their bills "deadbeats" and said they should be locked up. Then one day, he received a collection call about a hospital bill IAO 200.00, and then he changed his tune. He tried everything he could to get out of paying the bill. Then I asked him why he was being such a deadbeat and shouldn't he just pay his bills before he gets locked up! He didn't have a response for that. It's funny how people feel one way about something, until it happens to them, then they develop a different perspective.
