Hi,
Found your site in a google search and have found some useful information already.

I've been dealing (or not dealing, more accurately) with bad credit for years. I felt hopeless and instead of dealing with the overwhelming and frustrating situation and improving it I chose not to deal at all.

I finally decided I was too old for that mess and I'm tired of paying higher interest rates for anything that I purchase.

We recently refinanced our house and did a small debt consolidation in an effort to repair some damage. I've already checked my credit report and have a whopping 540 score with Equifax. I noticed some of the accounts on the report have already been paid (all but 2) but were paid too recently to have made an impact on the scores.

On some advice from our lender to improve credit report scores we were able to get a couple of credit cards in an effort to prove credit worthiness through timely payments etc. We've only had them for a month so again, no improvement yet.

I do feel such a renewed sense of pride at finally facing this and I feel like there is a bright future within the next year. I'm excited to see the changes and I look even more forward to being able to refinance a 14% mortgage next summer if things improve!

No real questions as of yet I suppose. Just wanted to say thanks for some good info and what appears to be a great community of support!

Jillian

Congrats Jill and welcome to the site! My best advice to u on the credit cards is to purchase small items that u will need anyway and pay them off at the end of the month! u will notice in just a few short months how much this will improve ur credit score!
Good luck,
Ang

Not just pride, but isnt it a great relief not to think about this all the time? My mind was constantly occupied with my debts. I go to school every day and I couldnt concentrate on my classes because I was constantly thinking about my debts. I consolidated my debts a week ago. The money didnt start to fall from the sky but I can sleep much better now, because I know that I am on my way. The right way :D
