Jena, LA... opening a can of worms here...

I think this stems from an argument from when a group of "black" students sat under a tree where the "white" students sat at around their school. Some one came up with the brilliant idea to hand nooses on the tree. Those students who did that were suspended from school. A week or so later 6 black students ganged up and beat up one of the white students. They were arrested. 5 of the 6 were released.

I'' send you my opinion via PM because I am not going to post my opinion on this in public. It is too volitile of a subject and I've had very bad experiences with topics like these on other forums.

yea i was leary of posting it to begin with too FYI! But let me say this on the subject... what the white kids did was definately wrong and i'm not sure of the legal consequences of doing such! Now what these black kids did by beating up this student is asault and the one kid still being held is being held cuz he was on probation at the time of this assault. He will have his day in court to defend himself and i don't think this small town needs these thousands and thousands of people in their town.... Also, was the boy they beat up one of the boys who hung these nuses??
Guess i need the whole story and all the facts but after seeing it this morning on the news i was dumbfounded by the attention this is getting!

My wife and all three of my children are mixed race.Black/white mixture. I cannot say anything else on this forum without getting myself or someone in trouble.

In trouble with who cajun? I wasn't trying to make this a race issue but rather an issue of trying to understand it better!

Ok so i found this online about the whole story of the Jena 6! (http://www.snopes.com/politics/crime/jena6.asp)
This makes MUCH more sense to me now! This is truly an outrage! But this young man already has 5 violent offenses against him, i'd say chances of him being in trouble again are high! I'm glad i found this cuz it makes the story much easier to understand for me now. And ALL kids involved in this sud have been arrested with similar charges!! Guess i was missing a LOT of the story when i first posted this....

Ang...I didn't understand it well either until I read the whole story...I think what bothers me the most...is wrong is wrong, hurtful is hurtful...and hate is hate...and it should never matter whether you are green, yellow or blue...the boys that hung the nooses had to know what they were doing and I would be so ashamed if that were my son!!! And I agree...all of them should have been charged no matter what "side" they were on...this world is never going to learn that in order to live in peace we have to look at each others as HUMANS and not make judgements based on our color, creed or sex.

I couldn't agree with you more morning. These kids are going to have to answer to the judge and jury as to why this ridiculous immature thing happened :twisted: .

Well after much reading and looking yesterday i found out quite a bit more about all of this! And i still don't get it.... :?: I DO get that these boys were treated so much differently which is SO wrong on so many levels but how is letting a young man of 5 past violent crimes outta jail justice???
Also, wouldn't all the money spent by JJ and the Rev to put on this march be so much better spent in Jena? Like maybe classes on racisim, new computers for the school, scholarships for these underprivelged kids, i cud go on and on with ways to spend the tens of thousands of dollars spent to try and get a troubled young man out of jail!
