Thanks u 2! Ya know isn't it funny how certain things happen in life and it's times that ull NEVER forget, like what u were doing, wearing, watching on tv, whatever the case may be! And we were indeed lucky compared to some in my area. Our damage has long been repaired and our lives have moved on... some weren't so lucky...
Not sure how Cajun faired in Rita, will have to ask him! He's not far from me and was actually closer to it than i was! :o

I am thinking of everyone there. We had many refugees from that area relocate to us because their homes were destroyed. Our local banks took up collections of money, can goods, clothes, and toys to donate to these refugees so they could get back on their feet. We had apartment complexes donating a couple of apartments free from rent for six months. I know the feelings here were that we wished we could do more. Many of them returned to their home as soon as they could, but a few stayed. It was a horrible situation for everyone and i know people are still recovering today. Bless you all.

Yea pyb we got a few refugees from Katrina that we were housing, here in my own home and also all across the city. Then they get hit by yet another storm! Those poor people! We've kept quite a few refugees here that aren't going back to NOLA and can't say i blame them but wow has it put a strain on our community, with roads being jammed up, housing shortage and crime has risen... I guess it's the price u pay for growing!
Thanks for all u guys have done!

I've never visited the devestated areas but I remeber Katrina and Rita well. I never understood why they didn't evacuate N.O. when they were told that the levee's possibly may breech the year before for hurricane Ivan. I'll never understand why things are the way they are.
I live in Houston and we recieve thousands from people from N.O. and surrounding areas. Victims were able to get free or minimal cost housing for a full year.
When Rita came sweeping through I had went to stay with relatives in Austin for fear that all hell was about to break loose. The roads were backed up for hours and hours. Luckily my mom knew some back roads and I made it there in about 10 hours (normaly a 3 hours drive).

I remember the traffic from Houston also FYI! I've NEVER seen such a thing in my life! They were saying that people were running out of gas on the interstates while just sitting there waiting to get out! YIKES!
I think there are 2 reasons people didn't leave NOLA for Katrina... 1) after many many times of leaving to only drive back the next day, NO one expected the levees to break even though they were forwarned! NO one cud imagine teh scope of Katrina's devastation, it was beyond what our minds cud comprehend!
and 2) A lot of these people were poor and had NO way out, NO money to get out and NO where to go! :(
JMHO,
