My dad called me to let me know, and I called her back. She then asked me to call another company to make a payment with another credit card using Western Union. I told her I just didn't have that kind of money right now.
She called me the next morning, twice within twenty minutes of each other saying that if I didn't call her by lunch time, she would have to call "the other number she has" which I explicitly told her not to. I called her before lunch time and she wanted me to come up with the same amount (some two thousand dollars) by 2:00pm. Still, I could not do it. She then told me to come up with half of it by Tuesday (tomorrow). She said that she couldn't go lower than seven hundred dollars. (Yeah, I don't have that much, either).
So, she calls me today for a "follow-up." By now I have been advised of my rights. Earlier today I sent the company a cease and desist letter and said that I plan on dealing with HSBC directly. I told her that when she called me today, and she got very nasty and verbally abusive toward me. She told me that I COULDN'T deal with HSBC directly, and that I COULDN'T send a cease and desist letter. Um...Yes, I can, and I have.
So, I'm just very confused. I plan on calling HSBC shortly, but I wanted some insight.
That was my post. I decided to make an account. ha!

Do u know if this acct has been charged off yet? cuz if it has then u may have no other option but to deal with this CA! But first thing, u need to send a debt validation letter to make sure they own this debt before u send them a dime!
Good luck and ask away!

I asked them in the cease and desist letter to send me something validating the debt.
Here's the other weird thing. I just got off the phone with HSBC regarding the Best Buy credit card that's causing all this, and they didn't even have the account on file. How odd is that? I opened the account and bought a computer with it.
However, I did have some problems with them. Three times I had to order a new card, but I never received one. I only received two, maybe three statements either by snail mail or e-mail. However, I have a letter sitting next to me with my account information on it.
This is very confusing.
Hummm... ok so are u saying HSBC has NO acct on file for u??? T
Hummm... ok so are u saying HSBC has NO acct on file for u???
This sure could work to your advantage here! Have u checked ur credit report recently?? That may give u a clue and u can get one for free, once a year.
I'd suggest looking at ur report.

No. I have one other card with HSBC, and that is the only one they could find. How weird is that? That one is in good standing, too.
How could it work for my advantage? How would I go about looking up my credit report?

Go to annualcreditreport.com and they offer one free report per year! Is there any way these 2 cards could have been put into one?
Well how can they collect on a debt they have NO record of????
I'd say that would be impossible to say teh least...
Ang
Well, I don't think the two cards could've been put on to one. T
Well, I don't think the two cards could've been put on to one. The payments would be way higher than what she told me for the one card that she DID find.
What exactly will I be looking for when I check my credit report on this site?

Look for that credit card acct from HSBC. See if it's been charged off, reported at all and also this collection agency should be on there also if it's legit!
This sure has me shaking my head,
Ang
The account is on the credit report, so is the collection agency

Where do I go from here? :( I'm in tears.
Ok so the credit card acct is on ur report? Is it charged off?
Ok so the credit card acct is on ur report? Is it charged off? Are the amounts the same from the CA and the credit card??
Ur next step is to send the CA a debt validation letter and cease and desist, u can combine both of these in one letter. Make sure to send it return receipt requested!

Yea now comes the waiting game.... and just so u know, some CA's NEVER validate the debt! But if they choose not too, that could be a defense for u should they sue u! Also, after they recieve the letter they can make one more call to u then they must cease!
Much luck to ya,

Okay, thank you very much. She said that she would call me on Friday when I spoke to her today, but she was in a fit because I wouldn't back down, so who knows.

Ya know Blue i was thinking, why don't u dispute that entry on ur credit report from the credit card co?? I'm thinking if they can't even find the acct how can they verify it?? It's worth a try! And also i'm wondering how the CA will be able to validate an acct that NO one can find?? This has me baffled.
Much luck,
Ang

Hmm. You have a point. I think I'm going to call the Best Buy credit card service tomorrow, because I actually received a statement from them today, and see if they can tell me anything.

I am having the same problem that you are having. Plus they are very rude on the phone and then deny it. They leave messages stating I better call them immediately, etc. How did your situation turn out?
