Can a collector such as LVNV or another similar to them, report on a debtor's credit report, at all three credit bureaus, IF they are not lisenced in the debtor's home state?

Hi and welcome to the site. I believe that they can report it, but someone will come along shortly with more advise and information on your quesion. In the meantime, you might want to click on the "free consultation" button that is just to the right of this post where they can help you in depth.

thaks,

Hello Anita, does LVNV funding have a business license in your state? (you can contact your states tax department for verification) if they do not have a business license in your state then most likely they may not be allowed to persue collection activity, you'll need to contact your states Attorney General's office to find out for certain if they are required to have a business license to collect. Also, have you recieved any corespondance from them? (either written or by phone)

Some states require either a license (not exactly a business license) or a bond to legally collect. Some states also allow if a company has a license in their home state they may legally collect...try your secretary of state (that????????s where I found it for Texas)

If they aren????????t licensed, you may have some firepower to get the listing removed from your credit report since it is a form of collection activity.
