Go to the link above that says do it yourself from there you will find a link that says sample letters. Choose #9 stop all communication. That is a good sample letter to use.

When you use sample letters try to personalize it as collectors will sometimes ignore a letter if it looks like a form letter. Also send certified and return reciept requested so that you know that they got it, signed for it and keep this proof in case of any further action.

Have you thought about debt validation first. Make them prove the debt is yours. If you send the cease and desist before the debt validation, they will not answer the debt validation. If it is not yours and they can not prove it is, then they must stop collection effort. Only a thought. I am thinking if you just send the cease and desist letter, then they may sell it off and another collection agency starts bugging you about it. If you clarify that it is NOT your bill then no one should bother you. Something to think about before doing the cease and desist.

What kind of a debt is it? Fedup has a valid point. Make sure that they prove that debt is yours and are legally obligated to collect on this debt. And that it is not beyond the sol.
