Confused by Discover
Date: Thu, 10/04/2007 - 00:50
On September 4th, I got a letter stating that since I was entering into a program, my account will be closed effective immediately.
Then tonite I get an email stating that if the amount due now isn't paid by November 2, I will be considered in default of my agreement & that Discover may ask for the full balance due.
Normally my payment date would have been 10/11, but the letter I got tonite said 11/2. Is that because I entered into the program? Or is the letter I got tonite just something that is 'normal' & common? The account isn't closed yet-so I'm thinking its something that was just generated by the computer system...
There's no way I can afford to pay the consolidation company & Discover. Either I take the money I was going to pay the consolidation company this month and pay Discover or just stay with the consolidation company. I'm just concerned as I don't want to leave Chase (my other creditor) out in the cold (which is what would happen if I just paid Discover this month). I could flip flop...one month Discover gets $400 & the next month Chase gets $400...but that's doesn't seem like a good idea either...
I have to call my consolidation company in the morning & see what they say, but wanted to see what thoughts you had on this.

Probably best to stay with your consolidation plan and let the debt consolidation company deal with the creditors.

Thanks Sherrie.
I'm just so behind I don't know what the best route is & I'm a worry wart. I want to make the best decision & not get myself into a deeper hole than need be.

Called the consolidation company & the rep said that sometimes these letters are just automatically generated. The rep said that Discover said they would accept the offer of $155/month verbally, but they need to wait for the proposal confirmation in writing. She said once the payments process then the letters & calls will stop. Just right now I'm in a "limbo" of sorts. I'm enrolled in the program, but I haven't made my first payment for the creditors. So save save save I must do!
