First of all the FBI will not be calling you at work. If you did something they will just come and get you. It is a fraud, there are so many going around. If they call agian tell them that you are having the call traced and reporting them to the FBI in your area, your police department, the NSA, and you need to really do this. If you did nothing wrong, then what do you have to worry about?

Its ok . It is a collector acting in a very illegal manner. Have you defaulted recently on any loans?
Do you have any pay day loans? If you give us just a bit more info we will be able to better help you. These are scare tactics. Please do not get yourself upset

OHHHHH! This sounds like a call from a PDL!! Do you currently have any payday loans? This is one of their favorite scare tacticts, they love to pretend to be the FBI. Don't worry, you are not going to jail!

Darkchild...this is not a new tatic. We see this post often. There are a few companies that use this tactic. 305 used to be a south florida area code. Have you tried doing a reverse number search or use bbb to see if the number gives you a company name? The can not arrest you. If they call you again tell them to come get you or tell them you know who they are and you are willing to be they will be arrested becuase you turned the information over to the FBI and they are interested in the fact that these people are impersonating a federal officer which is a federal offense... hope they like prison.

If I were u I'd call my local police station and report this!! Make a police report on the call and give them the phone number!!
Turn the tables on them and see who goes to prison! It is VERY illegal to impersonate a FBI Agent!!
These people have LOTS of nerve!
Makes me SO angry!

1. File a police report with your local police.
2. Contact the FBI as they take a very dim view of anyone impersonating a agent. It is a federal felony crime.
I will move this to the appropriate section of our board.

Let's count the unlawful violations here:
1. fdcpa violation: threatening jail time/bank fraud charges. It is in relation to a debt, these are are civil matters.
2. Impersonating an officer of the law (when he stated that he is officer so and so. Even if he is a police officer that also works for a collection agency as a second job, he still could not act in the capacity of a law inforcement officer.
3. Impersonating a federal agent, pretty much same thing as above but more serious due to the nature of impersonation.
4. I bet you could get them on extortion charges as well because it sure sounds like it fits the bill to me.
They are in hot water to say the least. See if you can speak to your supervisor to get the phone number from the company's call logs and/or caller ID (as I'm sure they have one)

Dark child - please please please file the police report and also notify your local FBI office. The PDL's are carrying their collection tactics too far! Im certain an arm of the US Government (ie the FBI) would take interest in knowing that they are impersonating a federal officer. Documentation and reporting of situations just like this is exactly what is needed to run these jerks out of business!

Hey...I have a good friend that works for the FBI. I'll check with her and see what their steps are when someone impersonates them. Hopefully I'll see her tonight. I thought these turkeys were in the process of being investigated by the FL AG? Aren't they supposed to cease all operations while being investigated?
Update on strange phone call!!!
Spoke with them again today. Everyone I speak to has a heavy middle eastern accent, when I asked for validation of the debt he said I owed $580. I told them I was a victim of identity theft and of course he said it was not his problem I just needed to pay it. When I asked for an address he gave me Arlington Expressway Jacksonville, Fl. Which just happens to be the address of BASS AND ASSOCIATES!!!! It gets even better, when my husband got on the phone with them it got UGLY! When he told them to stop calling me at work, he said he didn't give a f*** and he would call whenever he wanted. My husband threatened legal action and the man on the phone said "he should come to Florida and he would slap him in his face 2 times and f*** his wife(me). My husband went OFF!!! Like an atom bomb! I have filed a local police report in Houston as well as filed complaints with the Florida attorney general and the Texas AG. I'm still waiting to hear from the local FBI office. Does anyone know if UNITED FEDERAL BANK aka PLATINUM B SERVICES AND BASS AND ASSOCIATES could possibly be the same people. These have got to be stopped!!! I have decided to make it my mission to put people like these out of business and where they belong IN JAIL!!!!!!

OMG !! Have these people no shame? Wait - its an internet PDL collector - what was I thinking !!! Imagine the shock on the employees faces if your hubby were to show up at their door !!! They speak to us like this because they can - I found that pressing the # key for a significantly long period of time usually takes care of it. You pay your phone bill, its there for your use; not theirs to harass you. HANG UP !!
Question to All - does anyone know if 'Call Block' is purchased on a land line telephone package - would these 866 &/or 888 numbers these jerks are calling from would display (company) names ?? I understand that if the caller id is not registered (ie private caller or unavailable) your land line/phone company will not put the call thru & then a recording states 'the party you have called does not accept blocked numbers - please unblock your number & try your call again'? I heard about it at work & was wondering if anyone partaking in this forum has this feature & does it work with these jerks?
From the exchange described above Im leaning towards the out bound calls made by these collectors are placed from off shore.
There is no way a legit US company would subject themselves to legal action & then have a tape of the above conversation played in court!!
Also, a lawyer friend of mine told me that IF at the beginning of the call you state that 'All calls are being monitored and recorded' and if the collector continues engaging you, that you have every right to tape the conversation. He also told me that there are relatively inexpensive answering machine that have the capability to record/replay. FYI.

hvn sent, the recording disclosure that you mentioned is not needed in most states as they are one party states (requiring the permission of only 1 party involved in the phone conversation to be recorded (the debtor) check your state laws to be sure.
Oh, and Darkchild, your city police, the FBI, the FTC, as well as your/and their state's attorney generals office. They need to be called, reports need to be filed. People are going to be in very deep trouble, and it's not you, you have so many grounds to sue them on it's not funny, not to mention the federal fines they are going to face.

Darkchild; please file. With every agency JCEMT listed. Maybe if enough of us speak up something will be done. Or at least potential future internet PDL customers will hear of these situations & not use internet PDL service(s).

Please file. File reports with local police & FBI. Hopefully these jerks are sitting in a call center here in the States & something will be done. If they are offshore; there will be legal reporting on the incident.
Either way - state side- or offshore - your local FBI office will be very interested in their comments !
