Today I called Citibank to submit my final payments on two of my accounts. The first woman i spoke to, I was happy about because i have spoken to her before and she has always been nice, informed and professional. She started to work on my first account but then her computer shut down and she told me to call again to speak to somone else to make sure it went through and to take care of the another account.

so i called again, i told her that the first account i wanted to make sure went through and I told her what happend. She put me on hold then came back and got mad at me because i didnt tell her that this other person was also working on my second account and that she almost went to her manager. I apologized and said i was just working on one account at a time. (i dont even understand what i did wrong and even if i did make a mistake, how am i suppose to know that i should have informed her?) she said i should have told her. then when i told her i wanted to postmark it she got annoyed, I guess cuz i didnt tell her right away (they have very slow computers so they have to be slow in everything they do, how am i suppose to know the right time to say each and everything?0

so anyway i made my payments and I asked her what happens now,she told me to wait 30 days after my payment has been posted and to call back to request a letter. I said thanks. she didnt say anything, she just hung up.

anyway, So i am happy that after this year I am finally done with Citibank. I will call back in 30 days and make sure everything is ok with my account.

I am just upset over this person cuz this is the first time i have been treated rudely, everyone i have spoken to at citibank has been very nice and helpful.

also, they asked me for employer information and if i was employed. this was the first time they asked me,I did not want to give them my info so when they asked me if i was unemployed i said no. Will i get into trouble for this?

I don't think you'll be in trouble for not telling them where you work. I think as long as you give a home or cell number you are ok. I know I don't want them knowing where I work!

I'm in customer service (not credit related) & that is DEFINATELY not good service! Even my worst experiences with creditors on the phone have been better than the one you had. Don't let one rep ruin an otherwise good customer service experience.

Congrats on paying Citi off!!

Just as a note: I recently had to call one of my CC companies to verify a payment made by my dmp...I also got a very rude person who wasn't listening to me and I had to repeat several things and then she acted like I was the one not understanding...finally I said to her...hey...if I hang up and call back would I get another person who maybe isn't so rude??..She actually got quiet for a second, apologized (which has never happened to me before) and continued in a much nicer way.

I don't care what the situation is, If I get someone rude, I hang up and call back until I get someone a little nicer. I have paid off three old debts this year, so I have experienced both since it was over a period of time. When I found a nice one, I learned to ask for that person and only deal with them. They will let you do that if you insist on it. bottom line is they want their money so they should be a little more cooperative on their end. Don't let them intimidate you. No one needs to put up with attitude.

I agree Fed. Find someone nice & stick to them!! As a CSR, I actually find it easier working with the same customers over & over. At least you know & understand their issues whereas someone else may not.

I love how you fixed that rep Morning!!

My theory...you want your money? You better be nice to me!

Exactly, I don't think there is any call to be rude or ignort, most people don't intentionally get into these situations. It is stressful for the individual who is in debt, why add to it by being a jerk. I think having a little compassion for the person and having a little patience goes a long way, my boss always says, we are all one pay check away from being in those shoes. Could be anyone of us, Including the jerk on the other end of the line.

Do not forget to get that zero balance letter. I have worked on a few Citibank projects and I've head the story about how it was settled with Citibank when it wasn't. Please please follow up with this and make sure you do not forget to get that l etter. It is an important reciept that you should really hold on to for many years.

Those third party collectors will sue you the fastest, that happen to me with a capital one card. They filed suit with in 30 days, I worked out a payment plan but they kept good on their words about suing me, they just kept asking for a continuance until the debt was paid. A little of 3 months in continuance. They don't drag their feet that is for sure.

fedupina who was the 3rd party collector that sued you within 30 days? I'm stilling trying to figure out what this "180 day window "is that Bud Hibbs refers to often thanks! Also please inform did you actually owe the amount the third party was collecting on? I have heard so often that it is usually different amount than what was originally owed - thanks for info! :D

here's an update to my previously post.

so last week was 30 days from my last payment. I called up to request my letters. she gave me no problems and told me it would be sent out that day.

so today i recieved two letters, one for each account. I was super relieved. but i have some questions. here's what it looked like:(it was on there citibank letter head)

citicards account number ending in:(they listed the last four numbers)

dear phacia,

please be advised that the balance on the above citicards account was settle in full for the amount of ### (this number was my last payment amount) on 10/15/07.

we trust this information satisfactorily resolves your concerns related to you account.

first question: they did not list my entire account number, just the last four digits, i guess for protection. is that ok?

second question: does this letter have everything to protect me? i know it says my account is settled in full but i just want to make sure. since it did not list the whole amount i originally owed and how much i paid them.
