What fee can a CA legally collect?

Someone at bank of america told me that CA's charge a CO a fee to collect for them and that fee is tacked onto the original balance.
My first reaction to that is there is no law I could find that would require me to pay such a fee, as I see it as a cost of doing business and nothing requires me to pay that.

Golden the fdcpa specifically states they are not allowed to charge a consumer extra unless there is a agreement with the original creditor stating what fees a consumer would be responsible for in the case of default. They are also allowed reasonable fees and costs if you were to lose a court battle.

Ok but those reasonable fees and such are for only if you go to court, correct?
I would love to use that one against them...take em to court and ask for reasonable fees that would invlude the cost of all the CMRRR letters, toll charges for the phone calls, the paper I typed my letters on..heh.

No when you sign a contract or receive a credit card terms and service it will state what fees and interest you could be responsible for if you default. The collector can tack these fees on from day one if that account has it listed. The trick is if extra fees are included, the collector is responsible to show a complete cost breakdown as part of his proof! :D

I don't think CA's have this kind of information. One Im head-butting with tried to send me a DV that had no discernable letterhead..it was just a white paper with some typed up info..lot of info, but still it doesn't say anywhere where it came from and I responded with, "You're kidding right?"
golden I responded after receiving same type of "you're kidding
golden I responded after receiving same type of "you're kidding right?" computer generated form from a CA quote"this is information you have requested yada yada "with no info on it except amount they were attempting to extort from me! I informed them I was sending copy of their false DV attempt to state attorney general fbi fdcpa BBB in their state etc and hoped one of these entities would help me find out what they were trying to collect and why they kept violating fdcpa!-- I called every office I could think of and made complaints against this company-- wow-- 2 months later no response and no hits on credit report and no further contact from collector so now I'm just waiting for junk debt buyer to contact me now about disputed debt this company never validated! how does this keep happening over and over ? Good luck to all of you keeping up the good fight!
