trying to settle with boflex collection

I have a 1900 dollar debt with bowflex thats currently in collections,I havent paid on it for around 6-7 months. I really want to get it taken care of, however the payment arrangments that they want to set me up with, I absolutely cannot afford. I tried to talk with them and set up other arrangments thats more affordable to me, and they responded with them taking up legal action...is there anything I can do to stop myself from landing in a court house? If I send them some money thats less than what they want, will that keep them from pursuing legal action? any info will be of great appreciation...thanks

Hi Michael, basically what you want to do is send in what you can afford that way if they do take you to court (someone else on this forum can tell if you they can or not, i'm not sure) but if they do, you have the ammunition to say 'look i'm doing what i can!' and keep all record of payments and correspondence with bowflex. i would think if they pursued legal action that they would not have much of a leg to stand on if you are really trying to pay off your debt. can't get blood out of a rock :P
