Minimum Payment Due...Help!
Date: Mon, 10/22/2007 - 06:59
I haev lots more reading to do here to learn more, and would like to walk through the debt options offered through on this site, but will save that for later when I'm not at work and have access to my creditor info.
Anyway, I need some tips on dealing with a couple of creditors. While most of my accounts are current, two of them have just become past due. And while the past due issue is a problem that I need to resolve ASAP, what's concerning as well to me is the minimum amount due. My minimum amount due now is significantly higher because (poor planning on my part) an annual fee was added to my last bill, in addition to the ridiculous finance charge, in turn, pushing my balance over the credit limit, incurring more fees and now a late fee, etc.
So...my point? I need to nip this past due thing in the bud NOW before it gets any worse. I do NOT have enough to pay the minimum amount due. However, I know I can't just sit and ignore the issue (that would not be smart).
Aren't creditors unwilling to work with you on payments and such? I just need to get the account current, but there's no way I can pay what they are asking. Creditors totally intimidate me. Please help!
Forgive me if this is an ignorant post, I'm still learning my way around here.....
Thanks so much!

Hi Stacy. Welcome to the forum. :-) Please register with us and take advantage of the free consultation you can get. They can offer really good advice on how you can get a handle on your debt. For the meantime, have you tried to call and work something out with your creditors? If not, then calling and explaining the situation to them might help. The worst that can happen is they say no, right? :-) Hopefully that won't happen, though. Just don't let them talk you into something you can't afford. If you are going through a hardship then they may be willing to drop some of the fees or help you with the interest a little. Good luck, and keep us informed. :-) Also, don't forget to take advantage of the free consultation.

Thanks Eleroo!
I have placed a call and am waiting for a return call for the free consultation. I also have a payday loan that I'm concerned about. Amazing how much this stresses us, no? I literally nearly feel sick over this.
Thanks so much!

I would dump the card if it had an annual fee. If this is something new they are imposing then dispute it. I would also dispute the late fee and the over the limit fee especially since part of this is because they hit you with an annual fee. These are all BS fees that the company tacks on to make easy profit off of you. If one operator will not remove them then call back until you get one that will. At a minimum you need enough cash to make your normal minimum without the annual fee. If they dont want to work with you I would dump them and float the balance to another card if you can. Also its in your best interest to make a very strong effort to pay these cards down and eliminate them.
