Westbury Ventures left me a message yesterday saying that they have been trying to reach me for a very long time, and that if I didn't call them back within two business days, a courier would be delivering a letter to my work on the 3rd business day.

First of all, in the last year, I've moved, as well as have gotten a new phone number. I've had my current phone number for 1 year, and have NEVER heard from them.

The woman says that I must call her before noon on Monday in order to stop the courier from coming to set up a debit from my account. I've already had to get a new bank account due to the mess they caused in a previous one, and I do not want to give them account numbers. Plus, they've already taken hundreds out of my accounts (I am not sure how much they're asking for, or how much I've paid them previously). I don't have the records anymore. I've tried to call this woman 3 times today with no avail.

Does anyone have any idea what my options are here? Are they licensed in Illinois? Can I get a validation of debt? Or am I going to be forced to cough over money in order to prevent someone from showing up at my office?

Any help/advice is greatly appreciated!

You will find the Payday loan laws for Illinois here (just select your state),

No one is going to show up at your job. It would really be of help if you could let us know how much you borrowed and how much you have already paid back.

Brooke, in order for me to reply to your message . you must register. How much have you paid this company, and how much have you borrowed. Please just relax, no one is coming to your place of employment today or any other day. It is a scare tactic to get you to pay what they want you to pay.

I'm sorry, I wasn't very clear. I'm not quite sure what this "courier" will be doing, as the woman has yet to return my calls. However, from my understanding of the voicemail she left me Friday, he will be "handing me notification of the actions at hand."

I've been doing a lot of research, and while I understand that Payday Loans are legal in Illinois, does this company need a license with the State of IL in order to do business here? If so, it does not appear to me that they have one.

Unfortunately, I am not sure what loans Westbury Ventures has in their possession. The woman said that they needed to speak with me regarding FOUR very urgent matters. It appears that they operate under several different names, so I am unsure which loans belong to them and what has been paid off up to this point.

One of my major concerns here is whether or not I can request a validation of debt from them if I ever do get them on the phone, rather than having to negotiate payments immediately without first checking a debt validation against my bank records. And, if a courier does in fact show up tomorrow, do I have any course of action since I've TRIED to contact them to settle this matter, and am getting no answer or callback?

Thanks so much for your help -- I REALLY appreciate it!

Welcome to the Community Brooke :D I deleted your duplicate posts so you can find your answer in one post.

If they are sending a courier for you account-don't give them any info.Don't know what that is about- never heard of CA sending a courier!

Don't give them your new account info or they will clean you out.

If they are a 3rd party collector- send them the DV letter, certified, return receipt. Keep notes and copies of all correspondence with them

good luck-keep us posted..karen

Correct me if I am wrong but isn't a courier like the Fed Ex, or UPS person? I really don't think that a pdl co is going to hire Fed Ex or UPS to collect anything. I don't think that is in the Fed Ex or UPS employment contract (LOL).

If that wasn't the dumbest thing I have ever heard it is almost hilarious that they think people really believe this crap.

I'm just going to say - Definately send a debt validation letter to them to the address provided by kash. You need to request debt validation in writing. Send them a debt validation letter for ANY accounts they have with you. And, do not speak with them over the phone. Get that letter out.

*All I'm picturing is some kid on a bike as a "courier". Huh????
