my mother recently passed from cancer. And I just got a letter from asset acceptance llc, wanting to know about her estate. I have been paying her bills for the last year, due to her illness. she has some hospital bills and nursing home bills that I am paying for each month. But she has never gotten anything from them until now. I don't know how to handle this now since she has passed. how would I go about finding out this information without contacting asset acceptance yet. I would like to know the info on the supposed debt first.
back in 1998 she had a credit card sent to her in the mail and an unsavory person got it from the mailbox and used it up to the maximum and she did report it stolen to the credit card company. we never heard anything else about it.

You must send them a debt validation letter immediately. They are one of the worst debt collectors out there. Do not let them intimidate you. If you go to the do it yourself section of this site you will find a sample letter there. Use it as a model but tailor it to your specific situation. Here is a link that will give you not only their address but will show you what you are dealing with. Please keep us posted.

Sorry frog i was up all night so I was taking a nap.
Cbar, listen to Frog though. Send a debt validation letter. That will stop all collection activity for 30 days. If they send you the information then you will know more about the debt. If it is from the stolen card then you can fight it that way. But you need to know what the debt is before you can fight it.
