Please be careful with BOA. I used to bank with them until someone stole money out of my account through my Visa Check card. When I called in the card as stolen they guaranteed me that no one can take any more money. The next couple of days I had more transactions coming through on my account. I was livid. When I called BOA a different representative apologized and said that the first rep didnt place the hold on for everything. Needless to say, money was gone, they charged me all these overdraft fees and sent me to Chex Systems, when it was their fault in the first place!

that's why once this hold is put on i will no longer deal with them, I just can't close it due to MO state law on closing accounts and I don't want to rack up a bunch of NSF fees due to the ach transactions hitting w/ nothing in there. I have already opened up a new acct at another bank entirely, my husband doesn't even know what bank it is...

yeah. to make matters worse, the transactions that came through took all the money that was in there for my bills and then they started charging me NSF on the items I did authorize. It was a complete nightmare.

BOA is a nightmare! It took almost 22 months and more letters then I care to admit to in order for them to correct info they placed on my credit report. After the umptenth call I finally got a rep who sent me in writing that my MCard was paid in full & that I had requested the account be closed. Ridiculous !!

Really, it's best to go in person to the branch. You can't know for sure that someone on the other line is really doing what they say they are.

I did go to the branch. The head teller reassured me that ALL FEES will be reversed and the money taken would be refunded after the holds fell off. They just tell u what u want to hear because none of that happened for me. Even though they admitted that the activity on the account was fraudulent.

Here's an example of BOA run around:
When I 1st moved to the metro area I live in; there were no 'personal' branches. There was only one, a business branch, downtown & they were in the basement!
I moved from the west coast & there was a BOA on every corner.
I went in thinking I was a BOA customer; they would help me. It was like a root canal! Once piece of advice the Manager offered; for me to mail in my checking account deposits TO ARIZONA !! Every time I went there; it was a chore.
I quickly changed banks. And now - there's a flippin BOA branch where ever I turn! EEK! Bad memories!

good thing you closed your account when you did because BOA is no better now that they are everywhere then they were back when there were hardly any.

I know this is an old post, but I wanted to post a follow-up. I spoke to BOA today about doing the lost/stolen hold. They said they could perform this over the phone, but that to complete it, I would need to go into my local branch. I believe they do this so that they can confirm you are who you say you are via picture ID. Needless to say, I went in, and they have assured me that NOTHING will go through.
I have actually had a pretty good experience with BOA through all of this. They have had no problems putting stops on ACH transactions or anything. I have never been a fan of big banks, and I am definitely not fond of some of Bank of America's practices, but with this experience, everything has been good!

thats kinda funny. Bof A has turned out to be one of the best banks I have ever dealt with. Yeah, sometimes you have to put some effort into pursuing problems, but they usually will ultimately work with you to resolve the problem. the worst bank I ever dealt with is a toss up between US Bank and Harris. Though if I Had to rate based on Overall experience, than Harris would be the absolute worst hands Down. US bank was OK till they bought out first star, then they started to get greedy.
My worst BofA experience involved several charges for Prodigy that they paid Evan after I closed the account. Of coarse they dinged me $29 for every one (even though they knew the account should have been closed, and so did Prodigy for that fact, not sure why they kept billing. after a month or so, BofA sent me a letter threatening to force close the account. I called and told them I already closed and explained what had been going on and that I wasn't paying a dime. They seemed relatively happy. A month letter I get a letter from a CA (national revenue systems i think) demanding payment or they were going to sue (yeah right over $200 bucks? ill believe it when I see it). Needless to say I was PO'ed and scared (didn't know as much as I do now). I some how got a hold of a guy at some office in Las Vegas. I explained the situation to him. It took about a week and a half of phone calls and letters ( the guy even came in on his day off and called me on his cell phone from his kids ball game to update me). Finally he saw what I said, and recalled the account from the CA, refunded the fees and the charges, found some other charges I shouldn't have paid so I got like a $100 refund sent me a $50 AMEX gift check for my inconvenience,a nd documented everything and sent it to me if any problems came up later. Needless to say after TCF, Harris and US bank took turns screwing the crap out of me for fess, when BofA came back into the Chicago market, I moved my account ASAP. I have been pretty happy since then. there are occasional issues now and then, but they usually will get them resolved pretty quickly.

Relieved to hear of a positive BOA experience. Perhaps with any life encounter; there are peeps who do their job & do it well. And then there are peeps who can't or won't.

I too am glad some people have good experiences with BOA. I closed my checking account with First National Bank (they were WONDERFUL by the way!) to escape the autodrafts from the Payday Loan companies. I am currently working on smaller payments to these companies, but BOA is making my life hell!! Well, actually, it's all the fault of the payroll lady at my job. She screwed up my first direct deposit and from there everything has gotten completely out of control. My bills that were set to EFT got returned, I quickly went to deposit cash, but since they debit before they credit I was charged OD fees. I thought I had everything straightened out, but my next payday they put a hold on my funds, they do the same with every deposit I try to make. They have charged me over $500.00 in fees already and I just want out! I can't even start paying the PDLs off because every penny I make goes to Bank of America. I need to find another bank that doesn't use chexsystems or my credit report, but I fear I am out of luck.
Anyway, good for you if you're having good luck with them!

Darc, did you ask MCA about banks in your area that do not use Chex. Also I have heard that the online bank is very good. I will search for the name. A lot of people here use them. The name escapes me now, but I will find it for you.

And yes, I sent mca a pm asking if she had any advice for me. She said SD is a hard one, but she did find one.
Thanks again!
