need help in paying credit card debts

So I just got engaged and I'm getting married in April. I've heard you should never take debt into a marriage. He's got great credit no debts and I dont want to make my debt his debt. I need to pay it off but the collection agency that has my account wants more down on it than I can afford right now. I owe 1716.06, and I need help figuring out the next step.
