It really just depends. I've had good experiences with BofA. All banks suck to one degree or another, and it just depends on the person you get on the phone each time.

OK, so I went to another branch, I was told by an employee to call a 800 number to file a complaint for the unauthorized debit. So I call customer service, I was told that since I did business with the company (oneclick cash), I couldn't file a claim, and they would not close the account. They only close it in the case of stolen checks fraud. I'm going to file a complaint to the OCC.

Credit unions are without a doubt much better than regular banks, much more consumer friendly. I have CCs with 2 credit unions and they have been great to me. I am actually considering opening my checking account with them too, because I use one of the frequently mentioned "bad banks" and don't trust them at all.[/img]

First of all, I do so love granny's new avatar! How pretty! I'm sure it's due to volley's talents? Second, goudah is right. The bank did NOT hide any facts regarding the larger transactions going through first. As a matter of fact, if you actually DO read the information when you open a new account (and I'm a geek, I do!) it does state it in there in their policies. Anyway, off the soapbox now, I called the person who helped me yesterday at the bank. I was told that I would have to PAY the NSF fees. She said I would have to go in and make a deposit and then close the account. Well, I'm in my car and hung up. Then I got to thinking exactly what you guys just said on here. Why in the hell would I go in and pay a NSF fee for a fraudulent transaction? So I picked the phone back up and asked for the manager. She told me, no, they will reverse the NSF fee off. It should be tonight. Once that is reversed, I'll be back to $1.43 (damn, I'm rich!) and I can close the account. So..... I'll get up in the morning again, stumble to the computer and check the account. If it has indeed been removed, I'll stop by the bank first thing (they're going to fire me at my job soon!) and close the account out. To be honest, I'm not going to open one up yet. First of all, I won't have any money to start a new account tomorrow. ($1.43) So it would have to wait anyway. I just want that sucker closed before the "nasty man" tries to hit it again, which he did swear he'd do to the bank lady. Nice guy. So, that's my update! :D

Hey everyone...sorry I missed the dialogue here today.
Yes, banks will post deposits, then largest to smaller dollar debts/checks.
Cannr-not sure what your pay sitation is like, can you get your direct deposit moved or just a paper check?
I am glad that they finally agreed to reverse the transaction and the fee that was triggerd due to the transaction. ahhhh what a day.

This really sucks. My work practicaly INSIST we use direct deposit. paperchecks have been known to arrive 5 or 6 days late and sometimes not at all!! Causing the check to have to be reissued and resent. When anyone complain its always "well, we encourage all employees to utilize direct deposit". This is really going to be a hassle.

Now, I'm seeing the light with volley's suggestion. I know it would be a pain in the old neck to be "old fashioned" again and get an account that is deposit only. That way your direct deposit can go in to an account, no debits can be taken out. So you have to walk your butt into the bank and get money. Ugh! I'm lazy! And I'm assuming no debit card (smart, huh?). So it would be like turning back time to the old Laura Ingall's days! LOL! And soooo many companies do insist on direct deposit. A ton. Since this is so late in the game for me (since this just happened and I can't actually close it entirely until the NSF fee is reversed off), I think my check will be okay going in on Friday. I'll just be at the bank at 9:00am (again!) to suck it out and close the thing! I would close it tomorrow (if the NSF fee is gone in the morning), but NO MONEY to open a new account! Poor person here! So it'll probably have to wait until Friday anyway. Then I'll probably "stew" over the weekend as to what my options are. Hmmmm...... I know they're stalking me. LOL!

Right now. I can't even afford beef stew. And thats the truth. Lunch today consisted of a cheese sandwich on old bread and a glass of water. Tonight at work, i'm going to eat my last cup of Romon Noodles. It's hard to image that a man that works 40+ hours a week and makes over $15.00 a hour can't afford to eat because of these PDL's. It's amazing how much income these things suck up.

Formula-not sure of your pdl situation since it may be posted on another thread, but I have heard of a service that you can have your direct deposit sent to and you use a cash card or something like that. I need to look it up Or do deposit only on the account.
Once you have $ in your pocket away from these pdl's, it will feel sooooo damn good!

Formula, Lord, I'm sorry to read your post. But, I'm telling you, we all know the feeling. Ramon Noodles. Lived on them for a couple of months. Now it's soup and crackers. Cheese sandwiches for work. Honey, I can relate. Have you gained control over your paycheck so that you have it again and the pdls aren't getting it any longer?

formula, i know how you feel in regards to the PDL's eating up your whole check. they were doing the same to me and i'm the only source of income right now in my family! its depressing to see them take your money before it even hits your account. i am seeing the light at the end of the tunnel though. my checking account is on deposit only status until my direct deposit changes over. i agree with cannr in being old fashioned. im scared to write checks and/or use my new debit card now. afraid the PDL's will find out my new account number. so until i see the coast is clear, all transactions will be cash or money order. tell me more about this western union thing.
Yay Cannr! Way to go! You should not have to pay that fee.

Thanks, goudah! :D Alrighty now! Checked the bank account this morning. Back to $1.43. Damn! Am I rolling in the dough or what? The debit was reversed off the other day. The NSF fee was reversed off last night. So, here I travel to the bank again (if I'm not fired soon it'll be a miracle!). CLOSED THE ACCOUNT. Closed. Sorry, Mr. Nasty Man who is stalking me. Closed. However, this one got me. As the person was closing my account, the computer was going to charge a "close account fee". Huh???? A fee to close your account? What's up with that? I was right on the verge of opening my mouth when she said "We'll waive the account close fee since it was due to fraud." Ummm...yeah, I would think so! LOL! But I've never in my life heard of a bank charging you a fee for closing your account. What??? How insane is that? Do you not have the right to close your account as you want to? You will be charged? Well, at this particular bank anyway. Odd. Whatever. I didn't pay it. So.... tomorrow is payday. I guess I'll have a check in my hand and stare at it! LOL! I didn't open another account while I was there because I don't think my $1.43 was enough to open a new account! Ya gotta laugh!
Cannr, I am so glad. What a relief. I really, really, REALLY hat

I had to pay a fee to close my account once, but it was with a large corp bank and i had only had the account for 7months. They told me they charge that fee for accounts that have been open less than one year because if there were a lot of accounts closed less than a year old basicly it made them look unstable.
Dont make much sense to me but maybe in the financial world on some planet it does.

roxy, I'll take the coffee can, but you have to give me the metal detector also! i2, you know what? That may be the reason. I've closed accounts before and never have even heard of this. However, when I closed my account (due to plds) and opened a new account, it hasn't been a year. Maybe that's where this charge is coming from. However, I do know that before, I've closed accounts less than a year old (due to divorce or moving or whatever) and never was told anything about that. So maybe it's just this particular bank that does do a "fee" for closing an account less than a year old. Well, crap! Sorry, but I had to close my account due to pdls and then had to close this one due to pdls! They're chasing me!

Close account fee
Cannr - did you receive some kind of cash incentive when you opened your account? My sister did at PNC and when she had to close her acct there was a close acct fee. Just thought this might be the case. I think it happens when it is closed before a specific timeframe. At least it is closed now and you did not have to pay fees. I am watching my acct like a hawk. Of course as soon as my direct deposit is made it comes right back out for legit bills so I don't have a lot to worry about.
