Something Odd With My Credit Card
Date: Fri, 11/02/2007 - 21:53
I have one credit card that I use ONLY for my small internet business. I pay the balance off every month. Recently it was refused at the Post Office and a few days later refused on Amazon. With the Post Office a call to the card company revealed no problems. With Amazon I re entered the info and the card was accepted.
Now, the thing is that my wife and I have hideous debts on several other cards with a total of 50k. How we got there is a long story I'll share another time. Meanwhile, what about this one, good card I've been so careful with? Is something going on related to my debts that I don't know about?
Thanks!

Who is the card with? Did you call the card company to see if there are any problems?
In regards to your other debt, please apply for a free consultation or call the 800#. They can help you & show you your options. Its free & doesn't hurt a bit!

i am sure that the problem you are having has nothing to do with your other debts. as long as the card finally went thru, I think that it was just an internal problem ,having nothing to do with you at all. I know that you did not request a debt consultation, or inquire about one, but should you ever feel the need, we are here.

I'm sorry! I mis-read that you did contact the company. Sometimes the machines are so picky that they might not take the card. Happened to me at the supermarket. Sometimes the strip is dirty (or the machine) or the clerk at the post office ran it through too quick & should have swiped it slower.

I think lawn is right about the card's strip... also we have a local conven store and seems every time we try to use our debit card there it's declined! It only happens at this store! My hubby has refused to go there anymore cuz of this... He thinks it's thier machine!! A few times we've left the store, gone to the bank or another store and had NO problem what so ever....

Your creditor has the right to look at your credit report pretty much anytime. Your creditor can choose to end your agreement with them if they feel that you are too high of a rist.
It is also possible to go into universal default. Lets say you have a Best Buy card (backs by HSBC) and a Sears card (there are two now, one backed by HSBC and the other by CitiBank). You default on your Sears card and HSBC cancled your Best Buy card because of it and now both balances are called due. It's called universal default.

Well if that were the case FYI then how come the charge went thru on the second try with Amazon?? That's not making sense to me! And we had this discussion in another thread the other day! lol A LONG discussion!
But to me if the card had indeed been universally defaulted then how can the 2nd try of using it on Amazon have gone thru????

Never thought of that FYI. When I tried to put my Citicard in my consolidation plan they were going to cancel my Sears card too, which is VERY current with a good limit. I never use it-but the Citicard had high-debt. The consolidation rep told me if one citicard goes into a program they cancel all accounts. So the universal default you mention makes sense!
I just gave that information for educational purposes.

Oooo ok sorry!! We had a LONG discussion about this same subject on another cc thread a few days ago!!! After the thread i went into my bank to cash my checks and spoke to my bank manager about this and she said she's been in the banking business for 30 years and has NEVER seen this happen! (on any cc that has not been defaulted on) She said yes they can but why would they??? (if it's being paid on)
But i learned something new that day!

I don't think person posting original comment stated anything about defaulting on anything at all with more than one creditor!--(did I miss something here? as sometimes I do if I am only zoned in on certain comments?!) I had a recent amazon card compromised for less than $50 in identity theft charges at Derweinerschnitzel in a different city--don't know how these thieves actually access secured sights there--but folks at amazon contacted me next day at work on a Saturday! --(of course this might have been an outsourced call)--but the fraud dept was totally on top of this situation and issued new credit card # immediately!!! from what I myself have actually experienced in past-- if your creditor originally notices you aren't paying balance in full --or missed a payment(even because of their faulty accounting system)--they usually then increase your limit!!!! (as long as you have sent a payment)--(then you will later get checks in mail to transfer any balances to this card at low interest rate to take advantage of their new balance rates and wonderful offer! If you have paid off balance and are not charging on this card they then up the ante tenfold!!! from my own experience!!!)--has anyone here experienced this? This has also happened to me when I have made a couple of mistakes and not paid AP on time for company credit cards-- I know corp . has outstanding credit rating--this doesn't give me excuse for mistake I might have made but lol!@ --the result is not bad-- but instead of chastising or whatever if I don't pay off entire balance for co--then lo and behold I then open up next correspondence an an offer for even more credit AND a lower interest rate to transfer any balances and a bigger line of credit !---has this happened to anyone else out there or has my experience simply been an isolated case? very curious about response here and would welcome an experts' response! thanks a bunch Personal Attacks removed per Forum Rules :D

I thought this was an open forum where anyone can post help and info.
I am sorry some don't feel that they can post, and sometimes I may agree with them. When someone gets attacked or laughed at for what they say-it makes you not want to post.
Let's just all remember what we are here for- to educate and help others..karen
