can you please help me. I have just found out that my son aged 21 has taken out 15 pay day loans, and i am getting calls all the time fronm people trying to find him.there is no way he can possibly pay these debts, He is young and only works at the local supermarket, for a small salary. He does have direct deposit,so i suppose it was easy for him to get these loans. he refuses to say what he did with the money, and that also scares me. What can i do to help him out of this mess.

First you need to get together all the information on each loan. You will need the original amount, how much has been paid so far and what tehir terms are. Also include what state you are in and wethere they are internet or storefront. Others on here have more knowledge but I think this is where you and your son need to start.

thank you for helping so far.Did I do something wrong I noticed I was edited out.
i will try to get the info. but it may be hard, because he is very secretive and when i asked him why all these people wre calling me he got angry. I can try to look in his room when he is at work, but I honestly do not know what i am looking for. We have never had a loan out and I dont know very much about the loans he got.

Yes, you were not edited, just a rude comment was edited out.

For us to be able to provide some good help to you, we will need some more information.

We need to know:

What state he is in

Who he borrowed from

How much for each loan

And how much has been paid on each loan

If you can somehow get us this info, we can provide you some solid advice on how he can deal with these loans.

I can't really say for sure until I know more about the situation.

But I can say that as long as he didn't take out the loans with the intent of not paying on them, he will be fine. Getting in over your head is not a crime, although when the pdl's call they will try to tell you that it is. But they are just trying to scare you into paying at that point.

If he has any storefront loans, there may be a possibility of bad check charges. But that varies state to state, and really depends on the situation.

Yes, this helps greatly! I can put your mind at ease right now! Payday loans are ILLEGAL in WV, and that means every company your son borrowed from is breaking the law.

The WV attorney general has been suing these companies left and right. Your son needs to file complaints against them all asap. The AG's office can help get the companies off his back.

And no, he absolutly cannot get into any legal trouble because of this. The companies are illegal to begin with, so they cannot do anything to him.

Oh I am sorry to bother you again.I dont know what to do. the statemnt I found was old, and they are overdrawing his account. he does not make that kind of money that they are taking out. Is that why they are calling me. Did he commit a crime. I am at my wits end. Thank you

It's no bother! This is what we are here for! To answer questions! :D

I do not think he commited any crime. He needs to get this bank account closed ASAP. Please read the sticky on closing your bank account. There are some protections he may need the bank to put in place so the pdl's don't keep taking his money.

Please, know that you have found a place to help your son. Most all of us have been in your sons situation, and got out. We can help.

guest, these are all internet loans. He apparently took out internet loans and the internet lenders are debiting his bank account, which is why his bank account has all those debits coming out of it.

Please don't be scared. I know it's all very confusing. Especially when it's your son. I'm going to post the pdl law for West Virginia, okay? So you can see it. It seems as though pdls are prohibited in West Virginia, which could work in your son's favor. Also, it seems as though the loans he took out are not licensed/legal lenders, which could also work in your son's favor. Hang on. I'm going to post the West Virginia state pdl law for you.

guest, your son needs to close his bank account. These pdls he has out are not licensed/legal. Pdls are prohibited in your state. He has already overpaid One Click Cash. These pdls are going to continue to debit his account forever if allowed. Can you speak to your son regarding his bank account? He needs to do something.
