In general when negotiating a settlement what can one expect to get. I am currently negotiating a settlement with Allied International over a credit card account with Bank of America, balance is 6200.00 and we are around 2000.00 now. Should I accept or decline. and on what grounds. I have heard of these companies settling for 10cents on the dollar. Thanks

Welcome to the forums.

Before you make any move towards settlement, I will suggest you to compare the management program on settlement and consolidation. Settlement has some harmful effects on your credit file unlike the consolidation program.

I have considered consolidation however this is the only debt I have in colections and it has allready shown very poor on my credit because I have had it so long without a payment. I have also heard that if you dispute it during the thanksgiving/christmas time that many times (esepecially if the debt is allready paid) they wont reply and it will be removed from the report completely. Is there any truth to this? I have tried many times to arrange payment with them but they have been very uncooperative. Kinda aggervated with them. I made a offer of 3000 and they didnt take it. called me back after I had spent it then said they would take it. that has happened on 2 different occasions. we are now down to 2000.00 and I am begging to thank I should hold out. In the begging I just wanted to pay it off but now they are playing so many games I fell like I should get what I can. I havnt decided to do anything yet just searching for the best option. I thinkyoufor your response.

Fuser, as per the fdcpa law, if a debt is leaving a negative impact and is in dispute, it is supposed to be removed from your credit file.

I can understand how painful it is when you have the money and the creditor is not accepting it. Now, when it is gone, they start troubling you.
