I got mine today and it is in the low 500's
I need to raise that asap

Cajun is right...depending on your debts, without knowing more we can't help you a whole lot just yet. It does take some time to raise your score but there are things you can do. something off the top of my head that I do is pay all my bills on time and with credit cards I either pay them off in full or at the very least pay more than the minimum. that helps...please let us know a bit more about your situation

Well I have sent out verification letters in regards to inquiries on my credit report and credit card bills

On my Equifax....

I am wondering should I pay off the small stuff??

Like I have something on there for a tmobile cell phone bill for 85 dollars and the first date of delinquency was 02-2001 and it says that the date reported was 7-2007, now i have called this company and asked about this, because i dont recall having a balance left on this phone, i havent gotten anything back from them, i faxed and mailed a letter to them.

A couple of doctors bills, one from 10-2002 for 181 dollars, and one from 7-2006 for 55 dollars

I also have another cell phone bill from cingular for 673, i sent them a letter asking for a settlement, this is from 2-2006

All those above are in collections

The largest thing that i have on there is my credit card with wells fargo financial, my balance to pay that off is 831, and i got that back in feb is this year.

I have a credit card with hsbc that is past due, i owe 682, the limit was 300 dollars, and it is past 120 due.

Now which of these should I focus on the most, or how can I raise my score?

Whenever you make a payment on a collection or a charge off, the seven year clock starts all over again and the item will be reported for seven more years from the date of payment. If you never pay a collection then it will disappear seven years after the time you last made payment on the credit card that resulted in the collection.

So personally I would not pay off or pay on anything that old.

Ok recently i was able to be a part of a workshop on credit and credit reporting. One of the mods answering questions was Rebecca E. Kuehn. This is about her and who she is then i will quote her answer to this question (hope this helps everyone to understand a little more)
Quote:

Our moderator is Becky Kuehn, an Assistant Director in the FTC????????s Division of Privacy and Identity Protection. That's the FTC office charged with primary enforcement of the Fair Credit Reporting Act which is why we roped her into running the panel

Let's go to two other areas as we're closing in on our time I want to make sure we have adequate time the talk about these. One of them that came up, I think in a number of comments filed in advance of the workshop. The issue of what we like to call reaging of debt. You guys asked for definition in advance of discussing that. In essence, that is a situation in which a debt collector or subsequent debt buyer, subsequent furnisher of information about an account changes the date of delinquency, the date that obsolescence of the information is determined. The Fair Credit Reporting Act I'm sure everybody knows this, has limitations on how long negative information about a consumer can be reported and that is keyed to the date on which the consumer has been determined delinquent, the date of delinquency. There's specific rules on that. One concern we have heard and with from the consumer side and a number of commenters, those in the debt collection industry who are changing the dates basically changing the date in such way moving it forward in time so that the accounts stay on the reports longer than that. Wanted to let Ian briefly have an opportunity to talk about sort of what he's seen with respect to that problem and then talk about maybe ways in which we can address that.

Please let me know if this helps u to understand the reaging process better!
:D
