wrong info on credit report due to same name...
Date: Wed, 11/21/2007 - 17:06
my brother tried calling the companies that had put the items on the credit report, advising them that the socials, dobs, etc... did not match - of course they claim their hands are tied and they cannot remove the items. i advised him to contact the credit bureaus directly, but i wanted to see if this was the best route and if anyone can provide a detailed summary of what he should do. (i loan know what a hassle it can be to get things removed from your credit report and have only had minimal success with mine - and none so large as a mortgage!) he is becoming so frustrated, and i cannot blame him. his mortgage lender even advised him that, many times, things are slapped on your credit report without validating the social, or if the names merely sound similar! this is absolutely appalling! i would love to be able to give him more/better advice to ease his mind. please help!

Under the FCRA every consumer has a right to dispute the information that he or she feels is inaccurate and false with the credit bureau. It is always advisable to dispute it with the information provider. You need to send a dispute letter to the concerned bureau stating the items that belong to your father. If possible send them a copy of the report encircling the items that need to be disputed. You can also send all the paperworks that support your position. However do not send the original paper work. And yes send the letter via certified mail with a RRR.
