I just learned that I have to outstanding checks through telecheck. One is dated January 2001 and one is dated February 2001. Telecheck had all of zero information except that they were to a company called "Hagan's Inc" and they were for "auto service". She said the number she has is probably not any good (it wasn't). How can I find out what these are for and if I wait a few months for SOL, will they still list me for these checks even though they can't collect? Or will I be cleared and able to write checks to telecheck users again?

shouldn't telecheck have to provide more information before refusing to accept? What if their information is wrong ?--especially since they can't provide a correct phone number? WAS it FRAUD? Or was it actually "hot" checks that above member stated they were? "Hot checks "from that long ago should have already been investigated and prosecuted from local D.A. in your area with arrest warrant being issued if in fact was a "hot check" category --Can you file a fraud report at this point or do you just pay something no one seems to be able to provide info for but that affects your life negatively?--if you don't know what debt is for then this is not a system anyone should ever pay anything through--use another system and forget about them!

According to the Federal Trade Commission they are considered a consumer reporting agency, as specified in the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

They collect, store and report consumer information relating to check transactions and bank accounts.

Also, telecheck activities are governed by two federal laws because they collect and sell consumer information, and also collect debts.

The Fair Credit Reporting Act - for consumer information reporting.
The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act - for check collection activities.

So the same as any CRA they should drop off after 7 years. Telecheck will remove you from their data base once you pay them unlike chexsystems.

You can contact them at telecheck.com

"Commy"?

No one is required to accept a check, it is strictly voluntary.

You can also check your Telecheck (if that is who they report to) report and see why. If you have bounced a check or had Insufficient Funds for a purchase recently that would be the likely reason why.

And if they don't accept your money, then just how are they thugs?
