for the last two years different collection agency's have been calling me on a bill from a hospital in the amount of$30 for leaving without seeing a doctor and the bill also has interest...I have never walked out on a doctor appointment and had never heard of this bill till two years ago...the bill in question is about twelve years old and the credit company has been un able to get me the original bill. I was just wondering how to handle this. Today was about the 20th call and I hung up on the lady after telling her I will never pay this bill

maxine, have you sent the collection agency a debt validation letter? If you have thier address, send them a debt validation letter now. You need to do this in writing.

If this debt is twelve years old,it is to old to be on a credit report and you are most probably out of sol for collection litigation. Send them a debt validation letter certified return receipt mail. There is a good one in my signature. Add a sentence informing them you are quite aware that the debt is sol for civil action and reporting.

Welcome to the Community :D The others are right- send them a DV letter, also a cease and desist letter from contacting you, if this is out of the SOL.

I had a CA calling me on a hospital bill that was 13 or 14 years old, and had been paid-but of course by then I had no proof. Finally, the collector on the phone whispered-write them a cease and desist letter that this has been paid, it is out of the SOL and not to ever contact you again-I did this and was never contacted again. Now up until this- every 3 years or so I would get tons of calls and letters-then they would re-sell it, and over and over--good luck!..karen
