I can definitely identify with your situation. I recently had to modify my Chapter 13 plan after only 14 months of payments, because it left me with very little to live on, and I was caught in a very bad situation with my home mortgage, which left me no choice but to surrender the house to foreclosure and move.
My attorney recommended I modify my Chapter 13 plan to remove the house payment and allow the house to go into foreclosure. We have just completed this process, and it was fairly painless, I have to say.
Check with your attorney and see if modification of your plan is possible without discharging it. The problem with early discharge of a Chapter 13 plan is that all of the debts that you were paying on through the Chapter 13 plan will immediately revert back to the status they were at prior to your filing - meaning the creditors and collection agencies can once again begin pursuing you for payment - and they definitely will.
